Unhappy

before i start ill explain that its not a scoob, it a Ford Sierra Sapphire.
I had 4 tyres put on it last week that i supplied myself, i took them to the local garage to have them fitted and everything was fine until i jumped on the motorway the back of the car was wobbling badly so i took it back to have them re-balanced, the guy said it was the back offside wheel that was out of balance.

TRIED AGAIN! got back on the motorway and the front of the car is now shaking violently above 50mph, its a joke just trying to hold the steering wheel.

ANY IDEAS? some freinds have said it could be a worn steering rack?

Sorry its so long, i just need help!

Did the steering shake before? No? Then it must be the tyres.

Balancing wheels perfectly is not as easy as it seems. And it's quite possible that a weight has fallen off. Take 'em back!

Its also possible that the tyre is not seated correctly.

With very low profile tyres, this can be difficult to see and the wheel will still balance up correctly.

The other possible cause is a bent wheel.

Last possible cause is that the wheel has a different sized spigot bore and an adapter kit is required to keep the wheel central on the hub.

Thumbs down

Pete, they are the original 14" sierra wheels that i have put back on the car, the tyres i supplied have been sat in the back garden for 2 years and then put on the 14" rims.

im one of those people were anything wrong with my car and it gets me down plus i do a lot of motorway miles and i cant drive it on the motorway the way it is.

Try swapping the fronts to the back..

Does the wobble just occur at a certain speed..

As long as it is only the balancing swap the wheels from front to back and then if it is still noticable on the back then get them balanced again, but at least if the rears that then go on the front are fine you can drive it, with hopefully no steering wheel wobble.

Could be that the tyres have deformed shape slightly whilst stored in the garden, which would be more of a problem... but would think it would be obvious when on the rim and span on the balancing machine.

The balancing is just out slightly on my new wheels and the steering wheels wobbles slightly at 70mph, at 75mph it stops.
