Help and suggestions needed. I upgraded my front discs and pads about 4k miles ago. However, when braking from motorway speeds to a standstill, a strong vibration comes from the front of the car. I assumed the discs were warped, but they have been professionally checked and still running within their normal tolerance. I'm pretty sure the front wheels don't require balancing and tyre pressures all ok all round.

Does anybody have any other ideas what could cause these symptons?

Thanks,

Mark.

99% hot-warped discs. Undetectable when cold.

You're running OEM or cheapo replacement discs, yes?

Hoppy,

Yes I am running replacement discs, although I will not name them until I give them another chance to replace them under warranty. Is there any conclusive method of proving it is hot-warped discs?

Cheers,

Mark.

Mark, a hot-warp means the disc only distorts when hot. Under normal driving when cool it will feel fine. But a hard stop from motorway speeds will show it up, or repeated braking between a few Milton Keynes roundabouts or your favourite back road.

I had it on a pair of Bremsport discs (not to be confused with Brembo) but it got steadily worse. If you want to prove your point, just give 'em some real stick and they'll soon become permanently bu99ered. Take care, though. Discs can go from mildly warped to dangerous very quickly

Good luck,

Richard.

I had a set of Tarox discs do this - took 3 attempts before the buggers (importers ) sent me new, rather than skimmed, replacements under warranty.

As mentioned - if you give them some grief they'll soon cold warp too - I'd suggest marking the discs somewhere discreet to ensure you get new replacements....skimming will last precisely as long as the first time you need to use them

EBC Brakes have had this problem with subaru Impreza's. They have now changed their brake manufacturer to a different company with great results. to start with I would have said that 60% of my discs on Impreza turbos (late and new) were coming back and being replaced under warranty. The new part numbers for EBC Discs are TGD729 (early) and TGD972 (late)

Hope this helps!
