another tyre question
Hi all and thanks for replies in advance.
My WRX estate (currently being fixed by WMS) has 4 different tyre types on it.
The car is new to me and its a 53 plate WRX estate running on standard alloys. The car has 215/45 R17 tyres fitted at the moment but I cant seem to find the amount of choice I had expected when looking at replacements. It seems the size isnt that common so I was wondering if this was the standard tyre size or has some fool at some point in the cars history fitted the wrong tyre....
Any comments appreciated and if it is standard fit then what can I put on that might reflect a more standard size that maximises overall grip.
On another car subject we just fitted 4 x Michelin Pilot Sport 3s to my girlfriends A4 convertible this weekend and then took it on a 200 mile drive. They are VERY impressive on her car and provide an awful lot more grip than I had expected from a Michelin.
Am considering them for the Subaru too...
Thanks
James

They are the right size, but you could also go up to 225 which might give you a bit extra rim protection avoiding scuffs.
Personally, I'd say if you're looking for summer tyres go fo the vredestein sessantas or for winters the nokians (but shop around for prices as the fluctuate and have just about doubled from last year!)

Those are going on mine when the ZV5's are worn out.
PS. If fitting 225's the profile should drop to 40 really.

Just spoken to a guy I know who was fitting my tyres a few years ago when I went through my track day era...
He recommends Bridgestone 070 ( i think he said) and also says I can go to a 225/45... -
I am rather taken with the reports I am reading on the Yoko Advans...
Will let ya all know and thanks for the responses

It takes the tyre to a size smaller rather than larger in diameter to prevent the speedo under reading.
It is a matter of choice really, and if your speedo is already under reading by a margin, you can afford to go to a larger size like you suggested.
