I am quite happy with changing the front pads and done it several times, but have not "opened" the caliper so to speak to free the disc to swap it. I am swapping back to the original Subaru discs tomorrow as the car is undriveable on the cracked Black Diamonds.

Any instructions/links? It is for the MY00 four pots.

Thanks.

easy mate, Just pop the caliper out the way and the disc will probably pull straight off (if it does'nt fall off) if not screw in one or two bolts into the holes near the studs, these will push the discs off. Give all mating surfaces a good clean and refit. I put copper grease in between the disc and hub to stop them rusting together, not sure if I should do this or not.
hope this helps,

It is the "popping the caliper out of the way" bit that I am not sure on. I understand there is are two M14 bolts on the back of the caliper and removing the bottom one allows you to hinge up the caliper?

If I remember right, once you are able to swing the caliper(as you have done to change your pads) you can also just slide the other pivot out. And thats it just like my Moto-crosser (all made nice and easy for competition, quick and easy changes)

Cool

Just take both caliper bolts out and then support the caliper with some string to the strut so that the brake line isn't under tension. Then just pull the discs off.

I'll have a look - I never swung the caliper to change the pads just slid the out of the back. Seems to be those two caliper bolts I need to release then to swing it - thanks.

Cool

Front pads - no need to move caliper.
Rear pads - 1 bolt then swing caliper.

Changing discs and pads is very easy but if you are unsure get someone else to do it. Biggest problem is if the disc is stuck to the hub. If it is just find 2 bolts which fit the holes in the disc and screw the disc off.

They were 17mm bolts and required a lot of hitting with a hammer - rusted on big style - car only 18 months old! Will be easier next time. Both upper and lower bolts were required to swing the caliper. 14mm bolts seemed to be holding the two halves of the caliper together.
