Default Bad Fail on Emissions!

Hi all, first of all sorry if this is in the wrong section but didnt see an appropiate category for exhaust talk

Anyway my 1999 Impreza 2000 Turbo had its MOT today and failed on emissions as follows...

Fast Idle Test
CO Limit = 0.3%
Actual = 7.35% (Fail)

Lambda Limit = 0.97-1.03
Actual = 0.82 (Fail)

HC Limit = 200ppm
Actual = 189 (Pass)

2nd Fast Idle Test
CO Limit = 0.3%
Actual = 8.57% (Fail)

Lambda Limit = 0.97-1.03
Actual = 0.78 (Fail)

HC Limit = 200ppm
Actual = 170 (Pass)

Natural Idle Test
CO Limit = 0.5%
Actual = 0.86% (Fail)

Now these may seem bad but the subaru doesnt have a catalytic converter

My question is... will a catalytic converter make my car pass? And how many cats are on a 2000 Turbo classic?

Any links to an appropiate cat would be great.

Thanks for your help

Ash.

You need a sports Cat at least to pass emissions - or try checking you local clubs for an MOT station that could help!

Had very similar results on my mot today
Mine is also decatted, i am fitting mine today after fitting one it should pass no bother like the last ones ive had. I have 2 cats in my shed one came off a 99uk if your struggling to get one (take it you have 10days to sort it) There is only 1 cat in a classic model and thats in the downpipe from turbo.
Will just need to remember to remove it after MOT

How much would you want for the cat?

And also it gets a little more complicated as I have and Apexi exhaust fitted... so im not even sure a standard size cat would fit

Hi mate,

To help you out I would take £30 for it plus postage (Can take to scrap for about £50 at the moment lol)

If the exhaust is apexi it should split into the same sections as a normal exhaust. Just check you have 3 pipes or worst case 2 (Downpipe from turbo, center section and back box). Normally exhausts are sold as cat back and then the decat downpipe is fitted.
Depending on size you may need to make a small mod to the flange.

If you need the cat let me know and ill send it out on Monday.

Just to confirm mate.

My impreza actually had higher readings than the ones you posted. I fitted a cat and put it back in for test. Passed with flying colours
