its all good having power but i want to be able stop very well before adding more power, do the standard front brakes also fit on the rear? looking at this rather than an expensive brake upgrade.

No in a nutshell !

A front caliper is designed to be more powerfull than a rear caliper , if you fit the front on the rears it will lock up all the time , making it dangerous to drive . rear calipers are made with small pistons compared to fronts to keep the braking ballance right.

You can upgrade the rears by either fitting the 2001 onwards 2 pot rear brakes or the 2001 onwards Sti brembo 2 pots

HI
You can fit the Gold Sti 2 pot rear calipers and 316mm discs straight onto your car , all you need are the thicker handbrake shoes we do , this will increase the rear braking power , you would also need to increase the fronts to keep the balance right , you couldn't just do the rears

When you see cars with 4 pot calipers on the back , they are rear calipers with small pistons so not to over brake the rears , even if you fit the largest discs and calipers on the front , fitting front 4 pots on the rear would still be over braking the rears and make it dangerous to drive.

The largest discs you can fit on the standard Subaru 4 pot calipers is our 335mm kit , the discs are 2 piece grooved discs with alloy bells , mounting bracket and caliper fitting kit , and comes with larger than standard pads so you also get more pad material on the discs , it makes a huge difference in braking power over the standard sized set up.
We sell this kit complete for £550 including VAT

Hope this helps
Cheers Ian
