Default Wheel Nut Torque settings

Hi all, ive recently bought my first scooby, (impreza boxer diesel, Very pleased with it!!) and looking through the hand book it is recommended that the wheels should be swapped round every 6500. But i cannot find any reference to what the torque settings should be. Does anyone know what this should be?

I think it is 90Nm if I am not mistaken.

03STi Handbook says 58 to 72 ft-lb (78 to 98 N-m).

You'll find it buried in the "in case of emergency section" towards the end of the flat tyre bit, I'd guess it is the same for you despite the different model. Why they put it there rather than in the specification section eludes me.

Yes, I have used 100Nm with great success for many years.

The biggest issue is you overtighten them, like 150Nm+, because the studs get stressed and can (I say, "can") break suddenly.

Undertigthening will lead to them getting loose, and the wheel will rattle for a mile or two before it falls off. Usually giving enough time to stop the car safely.

Get a good torque wrench, clean the mating surfaces, and if you are like me (****?) then ramp up the torque. Start with finger tight, then 40Nm all round, then 100Nm. THis method ensures a well centered wheel, and no vibrations.

Re-torque after 50-60 miles, after letting the wheels cool down.
