Default upgrading brakes on a hawkeye wrx

i am after a bit of advice about upgrading the brakes on my 06 wrx. would new performance discs and pads be ok with a performance upgrade or would i be better saving a bit more for new calipers (sti brembo or k sport) ?

You'll both have the Subaru stamped 4 pots, with a 294mm disk size.
What you get depends on your used I suppose.

Fast Road
Track
or like me, just to show off a bit.

You'll be able to get some decent disk/pad combo's for the first.
Better off going bigger and after market for the second.

Hi
It depend on how hard you use the car , and if your going to be doing track days .

For normal fast road use my customers are getting good resuls with our grooved discs and kevlar pads all round , I can supply you these for £220 as a package plus £15 P&P.

For harder road use , or track days , I would then upgrade further by putting a better front pad in , Something like the Miintex 1155 or Ferodo DS2500's , PF dont make the Z rated compound in the shape for the Subaru 4 pots.

From there you need to go bigger , the Subaru 4 pot calipers are a good caliper , just on a too small disc for serious use , so I make a 335mm disc kit to fit with them that will fit under your standrad wheels , this brings the performance in line with a 330mm AP kit which we have tested back to back , the kit comes with 335mm x 32mm 2 piece discs and bells , a caliper widening kit as these discs are 6mm thicker than standard ones so will take a lot more heat , you get a mounting brackets kit to bring the caliipers away from the hub to fit the larger diameter discs , and also larger than standard Ferodo DS2500 pads , the pads are the same legth as a standard pad but are about 15mm wider , the pad area on the disc is also wider than a standard disc.
This has been a very popular kit over the years , as its a very good way of increasing the performance of the brakes without the expence of changing calipers , we can offer you this kit at the moment for £550.

Hope this helps
Cheers Ian

The only problem there though is that they wont fit under the WRX wheels

it will just be for road use but will be producing 300+bhp. will the grooved discs and kevlar pads still be suitable? also how long would a garage take to fit them as my car is going in for coilovers end of the month and amthinking it might be easier to get them to put them on?

also disc size not a problem as i already have 18"s

At the moment I'm running 350bhp on my Hawk WRX and have taken Ian's advice on the grooved discs, Brembo callipers and some performance friction pads. The kevlar pads I assume will be fine for road use - I opted for PF pads due to the number of track days I'll be doing.

I do recommend some decent fluid and the stainless steel goodridge hoses too. They were the first things I did to my standard Subaru 4 pots and combined with some EBC red stuff had an amazing time on 2 track days

As the car is running more now, I opted to upgrade

It depends on what you have on at the moment and what you think of them.

The most popular fast road package we do is BrakeTech discs, with kevlar pads and braided lines. A very nice step up from standard.

Has any one here used the AP brakes with 17" wheels?

Also if you up rate the front brakes does it interfere with the ABS system if you just upgrade the fronts only?

Is this set up supposed to be used with braided lines or will it just enhance the performance and be fine with standard lines?
