Default Removing a bolt that does not want to come out

I have been trying for about an hour and a half today to remove my calipers to change my brake pads but have been stuck on the top bolt holding it on.

I tried with a spanner and hammer (which is what I normally use) but to no avail, anyone got any ideas what I can use to remove the bolt? The car isn't even that old, its a 04 Sti !

Cheers in advance

I've used a telescopic wheel brace, before now, they have a standard 1/2" drive end, and can be had for about £8 from Wickes, Scrrwewfix etc. Extaends to around 24".
Plus they make an EXCELLENT anti-hijack device as plod can't say, "Why do you have THAT in the car?"

Yes as above , you dont need to remove the calipers to change the pads , just the two pins holding the pads in the calipers , you only need to remove the calipers if you are changing the discs as well.

We have power bars here for stuborn bolts , watch out on the Brembo's as we have seen a few with bolts so tight in the the bolts snap

Cheers Ian

Wow! Doesn't bode well for those of us that do discs at home, then?

It just would of made things easier, thats why I was going to do it. I guess I will have to do it without taking them off now though, lol

In some cases its not just that the bolt is tight. I've suffered the consequence of a damaged bolt being murdered in at the factory that stripped the thread in the caliper when I removed it. End of bolt had a blob of metal on it where it had been badly made. Repair is to helicoil. This is poor QC at manufacture.
