I need to get some new brakes for my 99MY Uk Turbo, and am considering the GodSpeed 335mm upgrade kit that uses your existing calipers with spacers to fit the larger discs.

Since I don't know much about GodSpeed, can anyone give me feedback (good or bad) about the quality of the parts, customer service delivery times etc.

It's only the 335mm kit I'm interested in, not the smaller ones. And also only when fitted to 99/00MY of UK car - I want to ensure the kit is a good match for _my_ car.

Thanks for your help

Steve

I'm being cautious, because I know they change the car models subtly each year, and want confirmation from someone who's got my model of car with those brakes on.

For example, you have to 'split' the caliper and put a spacer in. Not much scope for tolerances here if Subaru have made slightly varying caliper designs. etc. etc.

Cheers

Stephen, I've got this fitted to my July 99 Uk car.

Had it fitted by Ian at Godspeed and have found him to be very good at all times.

Vast improvement overstandard kit and they look fantastic, I would have no qualms in wholeheartedly recommending them.

Has anyone fitted the kit themselves ?

With the larger kit having bigger brake pads, it appears that the pad friction area is offset from the standard caliper piston.
I was wondering if there is any issue with this causing uneven wear due to the unequal pressure across the pad ?

Question

Jerome

As I've said before your brakes really do look superb.

How much were they, fron and rears ?

Ian
If you read this again would this conversion fit an MY01 car as well ?

Cheers

Nathan..

Thanks for the pics - like the caliper colour coding !

Which rear brakes are those ? Can you get any bigger in any way. My last track day, all four were smoking when I left the track, so the rear must also need some attention. Must stop chasing Ferraris :-)

I have the 335 on my 99 uk car, and my positive comments reflect those above. It has not been all sweetness and light though.

I am currently trying to solve an apparent brake warping incident - I had not done any track days since fitting them, and run them in, but found an effect like the disks are warped, where the steering wheel shakes. It only happens when the brakes are really hot, and i doubt the disks are actually warped, as the prep work when they were delivered look first class. Yesterday was the first time i have had to check them, and i only did one side. I expect it is the hub that is either dirty, or something, so when the brakes heat up it makes the problem worse. cleaning the one side made things better for a while, but jury is still out. I did check the disk with a steel rule, and appeared OK. Need a complete service before I point to the rotors.

On the uneven pad wear, there is a 1mm difference in thickness from outside to inside edge of pad. Not really a problem.

Other than the above, they are better than they have any right ot be for the price, with no problems around town, and lasted 110 miles at knockhill last weekend without incident (brake fluid boiling apart). They consistently stop the car fast and straight, and trigger the abs at very high speed, enough to make your eyes hurt when testing them.

Thanks Nathan, I will email you offline as you should really get a quote from Ian Godney as my kit is nearly a year old now.

Yes Steve as Matt says they are Godspeed discs all round. I have heard that there isn't much point in getting a rear brake upgrade as 99% of the work is done by the fronts anyway. But I thought they rounded off the four wheels nicely so more cosmetic than anything.

Cheers

Do you know what the caliper bracket is made from ?
Is it ally/steel ? cast/milled ?

Cheers

Jerome - Are the calipers the standard ones, but re-painted?? I have the same alloys as you and they look excellent with the Godspeeds. Did you have any problems fitting them behind the SLs, like spacers or anything??

Thanks

Ian

Yes Ian they are the standard Subaru 4 pot calipers stripped down and resprayed. Ian had to fit spacers to accomodate the discs but if you order a set for your Superleggerras now, I think he maybe able to build the disc onto the bell with the bell itself acting as a spacer. Does that make sense? Anyway check it out with Ian Godney. Just avoid rough roads with those wheels as I have buckled at least one so far and possibly another on the way!!!!
