Mcguard Locking Wheel Nuts.....Help! :(
Hi folks,
I know from flicking through this section that this question has been asked a few times....sorry! I know some of you may have a solution for this but can't post it publically for obvious reasons!
I hit a pothole last week and totally buckled the two offside Ultralites on my 04' WRX. I've got a set of those Mcguard locking nuts with the spinning collars and I've lost the key. I dont have the reciept to get a replacement key as they were already on the standard rims when I bought the car so I just transferred them across when I put on new rims (when I still had the key!!)
I tried the usual old trick of smashing a bigger socket on but due to the spinning collars that failed. My mate then tried to weld on a socket to the end of one of the nuts and that epically failed, the whole body on one just split and smashed when we tried to crack it off. Now I've got one totally mangled one and three which are intact.
A local garage has quoted me around £400 to get them off. That on top of the £600 I'm gonna be for two new wheels is gonna bankrupt me!!
Does anyone know of anything else I can try to get the f*ckers off?
Cheers folks
Scott

or try these IRWIN TOOLS XL BOLTGRIP NUT & BOLT EXTRACTOR SET IRBGXL on eBay (end time 22-Jan-10 16:05:07 GMT) work well to, think you can buy lot cheaper than listed, only show'd above as quick example

Cheers mate, that extractor set looks like it could be good for taking off the wrecked one. Yeah cool I'll do that aswell, email mcguard, be great if I could get the others off without mangling the f*ck out of them aswell! lol

On the presumption that you can't possibly have thrown the key away and have only misplaced it can I suggest some calming deep breaths and then a thorough and painstaking search of the car. In the bottom of the yellow tool pouch, under the spare wheel, down the side of the boot under the jack, seat pockets, under the rear seat, then your garage, toolkit etc.
Better still get a mate to do the search for you so you get a fresh pair of eyes and ideas.
