Default Prodrive/Alcon Caliper Problems - HELP!

Hi All,

My Alcon calipers are in need of some TLC.

The problem seems to be that the surface of the caliper has reacted against the back of the pad spring causing the pad to jam in.

The problem i'm having is that to remove the pad springs you've got to loosen an **** of a torx bolt. Hey presto i rounded two of the bu66ers off whist trying to get them out! ****!!!!!!!

So, it's looking like i'm going to have to have to split the caliper and have it stripped/reconditioned. I can see the offending bolts needing to be drilled.

I was just wondering if anyone else out there had had similar problems with this set up, and if so, what did they do to sort it out.

All, and any advice, greatly appreciated.

Andy

By "pad springs" do you mean the steel plates that guide the top and bottom edges of the pads? (These are the only things that I can think of being held in with torx screws...)
I don't understand why you would want to remove them?

One thing I noticed when fitting new pads Ferodo DS2500) to my Alcons was that the guide plates (as above) are tighter for the inner pad than for the outer.
At first I thought the pads were the wrong size as the inner didn't fit!
Swapping round and measuring revealed the truth. No idea why this should be so.

Anyhow, my solution is to file the paint off the top and bottom edges of the pad so it just slides in nicely (with a bit of Copaslip).
