Default OEM spec - all the same?

Is OEM Spec really OEM spec?

The reson for asking is several places offer "OEM Spec discs" but prices can vary a lot. Now a few quid you can expect but 20 or 30 notes different makes you think that one mans OEM spec isn't the same as someone elses....

Any thoughts? When it comes to brakes i'm not a keen on going cheap (rear discs and pads for an 03 WRX) but as it is a work horse, OEM stuff is fine and i don't want to pay more if i don't have to...

cheers,

5t.

In short no. They can vary a fair bit in terms of quality and it took a while before we found something to be of really good quality. Not had a single issue with our ones.

Called you this morning Bob to ask just this question, the lassie who answered said you hadn't been in the day (13:19 according to the phone).

Will give you a shout.

In most cases it's simply that the disc has been machined to sizes of the original. In terms of material quality and heat treatment etc. it's pot luck! On the other hand, you could easily pay too much and not see an appreciable benefit in everyday driving. It's the same with pads.
I would always recommend the best quality you can reasonably afford e.g. on my STi DBA discs with DS 2500 pads

Yeah, it's been flat out busy - been spending mornings with suppliers and the warehouse.

She should have taken a message anyhow and I would have called you back.

Here until 6pm today anyhow

Thanks John. That's interesting to know. I (possibly naively) that the spec would be the quality of the disc not just that it would fit!

You've echoed my own thoughts that the cheapest is not always the right choice.

EDIT: Bob, she did offer but threw me off as it wasn't Aztec she answered as heh.
