Sometimes a stone becomes wedged between the disc and the disc protector. As the wheel rotates the stone rubs and the disc protector "rings" causing a squealing sound. Take off the offending wheel to check and lever stone out with small screwdriver if present.
If it's not that, look at brake pads: stones/grit can get trapped there too, same effect.
If it's not that, get it checked out, soonest

It's not on the car, it's a little metal tab on one of the brake pads. as the pads wear the metal tab gets closer and closer to the disc. When it touches the disc it makes a metallic/squealing noise and you know it's time to change the pads.
Not all pads have this but the OE Subaru ones definitely do.

had a look at the pads definatly need some new pads! however it doesnt explain how when i do not have my foot on the brake it still squeels so will be completly stripping the calipers and will put some cooper grease on it hopefully that soles the problem as you can now almost hear the sound over the sound of the engine and exhaust :-(

Sometimes your discs can rust on the inner edge, next to the hub. The edge of the friction material can catch this and cause squeeling. Found this happened to mine at low speeds so 'shaved' a little pad material off and problem solved.
