Default What Are reccomended DISCS and Pads

Hi just had my, MY99 STI in for a full service, including Diff And Gearbox oil. All Is fine, but he said I would need new front pads and Discs.
He recommended EBC Pads And their grooved Discs. I've not got a big budget so can anyone give me any ideas on a good set.

Cheers

Through personal use I like Ferodo DS2500 and Pagid 4.2-1 Black.
Some people will go for 4.2.Blue.

Also recommended are Mintex 1144 or 1155's.

Disc's are much of a muchness.

Try the usual suspects such as Alyn at AS Performance - Rally Motorsport Specialists
Ian at High Performance Brakes - Supplying AP and Brembo brake kits for road and motorsport use

Or at Subaru Impreza Turbo Parts, Tuning, Spares & Accessories ::

Gotta be honest im not an EBC fan,or tarox to an extent, started off with std discs an pads then changed to tarox G88`s (40groove discs) with their fast road pads-found them worse than what were previously on it, so once nackered have gone back to std discs with mintex 1155 pads which work well even from cold.(though can squeal a bit when cold)

Had EBC`s on a previous car an the only thing i liked were the cleaner wheels

There is a shop on ebay called CRN performance, i have bought from them before, and probably will again, though not for the scoob (bought some brake discs, f/r for a 306) worth looking at, some good prices there for full kits, front/rear/pads and braided goodrich lines or just the discs and mintex pads
You will probably only have the single pot rear calipers so you just need the 266mm on the rear

I've got the EBC grooved and vented discs on mine, with the red stuff pads and am pretty happy with them. The only real problem is that they do feel very wooden and dont work that well until they get warmed up, then they are nice and progressive and give good feel ( just a bit scary the first time you use them from cold and they dont seem to be doing much ! )

I had Pagid discs and pads on my classic, very good for fast road and track, place called Friction Workshop supplied them, not sure if they're still going...

Cheers guys, im thinking of going with either standard discs as Black Diamond I can't afford. And just go with a gd set of Pads. But will see what happens. I'm on a very tight budget. Takes me 2-3 months to save about £400.

But if I could get away with EBC' Redstuff I might just go for it.

Another thing I'm not happy about just picked up car from garage, went to shop couldn't open my passenger door it opened slightly and was stuck its now put a massive crack in my sideskirt. Great.

I could never afford that amount in a short space of time. I could just get standard discs wiv the ferodo pads im just looking at best option and what I can getaway with.

Is it a must if I get my fronts changed I have to change rears aswell?

Don't get red stuffs. They are quite simply the worst pads on the market in my experience. Standard disks and Ferodo DS2500 will feel like a massive improvement. Braided hoses as well if you don't already have them.

you dont no me but just trust me i speak from some serious experience stay away from ebc discs and red stuff pads. i am now going for dba discs and padget black pads. or carbotec is also good. im paying around 550.00. you drive a scooby you need it to stop crap brakes then you wont have the ***** to push your car further. save your 400.00 you say it takes 2 months to save 400.00 then wait. dont waist the 400.00 build it to 550.00 its worth getting the best thats one thing ticked of your list

Well I've been totally put of getting EBC Stuff now I ain't going to bother.

What I think I will do Is keep standard discs at the moment and get decent set of pads and when ive done some overtime will get some decent discs.

I use the car as a daily car I don't tend to thrash it much so I don't need super breaks just decent ones.

As Tony Burns keeps saying, CRN on ebay are the cheapest if you want cheap I know coz ive just spent 2 days searching everywhere on the net for discs and pads

I just got standard 40 grooved brake discs front and back for 129.99. Youd pay this just for the front with any after market performance brand.

they seem well made and solid gonna fit tomorrow

ive bought Nippon pads though LOL from BMS 40 quid front and back its all ive ever needed without ever going to a track!

Well I've ordered some Grooved discs from CRN and Some Mintex Pads. At a good price to.

Also brought some Helix Braided hoses.

Only problem is I've brought the 295mm discs will these fit ok onto my MY99 STI.

Is there any guides to replacing the discs and pads and how to bleed the brakes. As I might try and save a bit of money on labour.
