Question

Hi,
I'm about to replace the front pads on my MY00 turbo but am not sure which set to go for. Has anyone got any experience with Mitex 1155/1144 or Ferrodo DS2000/2500 in terms of:
Cold performance
Fade resistance
Discs wear
Dust - amount and how easy it is to clean
Pad life
Squeel factor!

From what I've read so far DS2500 are probably the top choice but at £150+ for the fronts it's a lot of money.

Thanks

Richard

Hello mate

The Mintex are a good pad

After running most pads in competetion we have settled with Ferodo

the DS 2500 is a very good pad for one or two reasons.

* they maintain a very consistent coefficient of friction from 200-500 degrees....try TOTALLY FLAT! 0.5
his means that the retardation is constant no matter what the temperature (useful when fixing braking points on track days etc)

* very low noise and dust. Good for lazy me as i can't use wheel cleaner on my polished wheels.. even two weeks filth comes off with car shampoo!

*bite from nothing!!

* very low compressiblity.. allied to braided lines will mean a nice firm and consistent pedal every time.

*Pretty good on wear.. actual miles will depend on how you drive obviously!

they are a little dear, but you do get what you pay for and the only other downside is they take AGES to bed in... but it's worth it when they do!

Hope that helps

Paul

Cool

Thanks Paul.

Anyone any comments on Mintex?

Richard

PS - Paul, I called a minute ago about the alignment for the 16th - is that slot still free? Just had a call to confirm, see you on the 16th

Red face

Hi
Had Mintex 1155s on last time with standard 4pots.
Better than standard pads, but don't expect miracles.
They are very dusty so you'd better like anthacite wheels!

Biggest worry was what happened to the standard discs - after about 10k one disc split completely along its radius! luckily I noticed it whilst not in a hurry, if they split under heavy breaking its going to hurt.

Now running HiSpec discs and monster4 calipers with Ferrodo 2500 pads. Excellent stopping with zero fade but they sound like a scalded cat when used gently after a good thrashing.

Oh, and I can't use the parcel shelf as it all hits the dash board in a big stop! Hee-Hee.

Cheers.

I have Mintex 1144.

They work OK, not that great from cold but good when warm.
They are very dusty and the dust sticks like glue.

Question

What's the bedding in for DS2500's?

Am thinking of these as a replacement for OEM pads.

Cheers

Talking

Ive been running 1155 for 2500 miles, seem to bed in very quick, and no noise with them, yep the are dusty but they're working so thats good innit plus i do have anthracite wheels so im not bothered really.
I autoglymed my wheels, then put autoglym gold protection for a hour, never had a problem washing them after that
And at 100 quid inc. vat and delivery next day from Falkland im very happy!
no problems with discs asyet, but will report after next track in a few weeks.

Mintex pads need to be bedded in correctly to get decent, squeal-free performance from cold. it only takes 20 mins though - I think instructions are on the website, but basically you have to make a number of stops from progressively higher speeds, get the pads nice & hot & then let cool right down.

Both types may be a problem with std discs - watch out for warping/cracking, & maybe consider changing discs. Probably not so much of an issue unless you're going to use them on the track.

I've got DS4003 (used to be recommended by TSL before 2500) on my Legacy - great braking with their grooved disks, & 1155 on my track car (Sierra). Haven't really managed to get either to fade yet, so I obviously need to try harder .

DS4003 can glaze over after hard use & squeal when cold - grooved disks help to sort that out I think. Can't comment on 2500, but 4003's produce plenty of dust - I don't think you'll find a pad that doesn't.

next time I replace the Legacy pads I'll be putting in Mintex as they are about half the price, & for road use I don't think the extra cost is justified. ( Paul - your dad's already given me the lecture about Mintex )
