Happened to me today, been a SN member for a few years and would have had these bearings changed earlier if i would have known, lucky escape this time.

Cheers for the heads up, doesn't seem to be a common problem but certainly worth a check occasionally.

My car wasn't MOT'd long ago and I know they checked bearing etc and other aspects of the wheels / suspension for movement and all fine on mine as it was checked on service.

Other halves Clio on the other hand needs bearing that reminds me.

never got any noise from mine at all

it just went

paid to have a "specialist" replace it and 6 months later it failed again and the ******* front wheel fell off

wedged under the wheel arch, cv joint snapped in half, and the car needed dragged onto the back of a recovery truck

Doh! Have you replaced both sides bearings then now including track rods then? I intend changing all the front end components after my experience.

Nearside front bearing is the common one to go followed by the rear, its due mainly to the camber of the road and that the drains are not flush with the road, front goes first because of the weight of the car.

I had a specialist replace my front bearing when it went and sure enough six months later it went again, so i decided to replace the bearing myself, when i took the old one out i found that he had left the outer race in place and only replace the inner race and the bearing.

is there no uprated/hardcore bearings available, to try combat this?

Or is it just a case of stick another one on and wait for it to go??
