Default Sensible disc / pad upgrade for 04 WRX.

I've got an 04 WRX and have been reading the various posts about upgrading the braking system. I can not afford to replace the callipers ( standard Subaru 4 pots ) so was thinking of a disc and pad combo. What do you think ? The car isn't driven hard and looks are as important as performance as I am looking at an 18" wheel upgrade too. Also, anyone any idea what size discs are on my car ?

Cheers for any comments / suggestions folks,

Wilky.

The discs will be 294mm. Go for grooved discs if you fancy them, but don't bother with drilled ones if you don't drive hard, they'll be more fragile. There are loads of places to get sensible priced discs (Tarox, Black Diamond etc.) I wouldn't use EBC as I've heard too many bad reports.

The best pads are Pagid Blue or Ferodo DS2500, which cost £125-160.

A bit cheaper are Black Diamond Fast Track or Mintex M1155 (about £75-80).

It's your choice, but I've got the BD Fast Track on std discs and they're much better than the original pads, but there is quite a bit more brake dust on the wheels. (Mintex will be the same.)

i've got an 05 WRX and the brakes are rubbish

i've just had a look at the godspeed conversion, i noticed it says
'All prices correct as of 18th May 2007'

at £650 it's not a bad price, but that was 18 months ago.

what pads work well with the std discs?
i want more bite from cold

Depends what you want from it and use it for really. I now have oem disks, Pagid Blue pads on the front. Normal driving, ace. Fast driving, ace. Hard stops, rapid stops from speeds, not ace.
I used to have a big front brake kit, and i can tell the difference. But only when needing hard, repetative stopping power. Otherwise its fine.
This is a simple case of, you get what you pay for.
