Default can you powder coat chrome alloy?

Hi Guys. I'm from york but moved out to New Zealand 3 years ago. All the subaru club sites out here are s'#t so i thought i would join scooby net as i have heard a lot of positive.

I own a 2003 version 8 wrx sti. Its my pride and joy. I have a question regarding the wheels i currently have. They are 19" DTM's. They are a chrome look which i was pretty unsure of at the time and still are. The 19's are a great size, just not sure on the chrome finish.

Is it possible to poder coat on chrome finish (after sandblasting) or would the chrome have to be stripped before attempting anything like this. I have been told 2 different things now by 2 different companies here in NZ and dont know what to believe. Please help

Whilst technically it can be done the powder will flake pretty quickly. I'd be inclined to have them sandblasted before powder coating- a service which most powder coaters will offer.

Cheers Alan. Only problem i got now is finding someone over here that will do it. Real limited when it comes to finding people that do this sort of thing. Big job opportunity if anyone thinking of the move over.

Thanks Alan.
