Default Just got some 4 pots and i have a Question

Good morning,

I am in the process of cleaning up a set of second hand 4 pots to go on my 93WRX, while dismantling them I notice that they have metal plates / shims between the pistons and the pads, will i get new shims when i buy new pads? its just because the ones on there look a bit old.

cheers

Dave

I think it will depend on where you get the pads, and who makes 'em.

I bought some s/h calipers and discs for the rear of my Scoob. The calipers were off different cars, and one set of pads was more worn than the other, so I bought a new set.

The old ones had sort of hard rubber shims on, the new ones didn't.

I put the old, and new in the oven, used a sharp knife to peal the shims off the old ones once the glue had set, and stuck them carefully onto the new ones, before allowing them to cool.

BTW: I remember those shims, Mine were stainless and cleaned up well with wire wool

Intersting, so you dont need them, but i guess its better that they are there, does it help the pistons push the pads evenly?

I'll have a go at cleaning the shims up then

Cheers

Change the pistons seals while your at it - saves alot of headache further down the road and the seal kit is only around £35 from dealers.

Already stripping them down mate, and have the seal kit on order, 23 quid for all the seals needed for both front calipers. (plus PnP)

Out of interest can you buy these seperately ? or do they only come with decent pads?
