Has anyone managed to find, for sale of course, the Asymmetrics in our 215/45/17 size?
I cannot find any that are for sale below a 225 size FFS! In fact, FFS twice with bells on!
EDIT: And that goes for the bloody Sessanta's too! Another FFFFFSSSSSS.

Thx for the info but i am still using the oem 17" wheels which i think are also 7J rims, i dont think they would take a 225 tyre tbh.
Although i may be wrong of course.

 

225 would fit mate on a 7J rim probably would look better to be fair as the rim protector would poke out a little more.

I've actually just sent a whingey email to Goodyear bitching about the lack of 215/45/17's, doubt it will make much difference. I'll post the reply, if I get one!

 

Well, I've actually had a reply. Although 215/45/17 is a listed size, they don't actually make them, and have no production date for them either. In other words, don't hold your breathe.

So it's GSD3's or Vredestein Sultana's [SIC]

 

Sessanta's are the way forward, after recent requests were just putting together another group buy

 

I had similar problems last year with 215/35/18, I thought they made all size at the same time on different production lines but they don't. It turns out Goodyear (aswell as all the others manufacuters) make tyres in batches, Ie: 205/55/16 and then changes to another size, So they make the common sizes all the time and then ever so often make the not so common.

I had to get my tyres from Germany through mytyres in the end, as they had stock and no one in the UK had any, They all had toyos though!!!!

 

225 will fit on oem 17' wheels. I have them without any issue at all.

 

Just a point, although strictly speaking a 225 should be fine on a 7J rim these GYA's do come up a lot wider than any other tyre I've had. They have a curbing rib, but that's not the reason. They just have a wider tread.

Compared to the 225 Toyo's I had on previously, they look like they're at least one size bigger (ie >235..).

I'm running them on an 8J BTW, I wouldn't be happy with them on a 7J (or maybe even a 7.5J)..!

Trouble is I can't justify the cost of new rims. The missus went postal when I got the PPP! So whatever I buy has to fit a 17 x 7J. Also with the narrow roads and granite kerbs here, 18's tend to get wrecked. Unless I get 17 x 8J and a divorce?

 

Do what I did get some STi rims on e-bay (£200) and then put the GYA's on. They are the best tyre I ever used on the road.

 

Hmmmmmmm, a guy at work thinks he's got some R888's in 215/45/17 from a Merc SLK. He's traded up to an M3 CSL, he's going to check the size and condition and let me know......I'm all confused now.

Aren't STI rims 18's? I don't want to move to 18's as they get wrecked over here.

Although i really ought to buy something as my front tyres are 2mm maximum and very close to the 1.6mm mark in places.

The MINIMUM rim size for 225/45/17's is 7". Practically every rim size calculator says 7.5" or 8" but I'm fairly sure I can believe Goodyear's spec.

 

You need to also take into account the listed 'measuring rim width' as well.
This is 7.5 as listed. This makes a difference to the actual fit of the tyre across the width of the rim. I saw some more detail on this but i cannot find it now to post it here. It makes a difference.
I am not sure, unless someone with the knowledge told me, i would be happy doing it.

I've read this and other articles numerous times, his IDEAL rim width comes up at 7.5. But he does say to doublecheck with the manufacturer. Goodyear say minimum 7, that's fine by me. Mind you, I could be getting some R888's FOC, but if not 225/45/17's here I come.

Looking at the Camskill web-site...

The Asymm's are XL so will have a stiffer sidewall, always good on the front of a Scooby, IMHO

7" rim should be fine....

I had RE070's (225) on my 17 inch Newage WRX rims just fine.

Just looking to clarify as I'm thinking of the same tyre.

I have newage wrx wheels, 7X17 fitted to my classic. They have 215/45 tyres on them. By changing to 225/45 f1 assymetric will I have any problems on the 7" wheel & what are the chances I'm gonna have a problem with rubbing?

And what effect will it have on the suspension, will I need it realligned for the wider tyre?

 

You shouldn't have any issues with tyres rubbing..

The only thing is the width of the tyre on a 7j rim..

I know lots of people fit 225's to 7j WRX wheels without a problem, but as posted earlier these tyres do come up wider then other 225's..!

If you look at the pic i posted above of my 225 (40 18's) GYA's fitted to my 8j rims you'll see what I mean..

Saying that, they may not come up so wide in a 225/45 17.

Either way, it's only a cosmetic issue so just enjoy these excellent tyres..
