Always been a fan of F1 GDS2-3 for scoobs.
But they did have quality issues last year.
And they are not exactly that long lasting

Goodyear F1 Aysmetric - now come top often in the tyre reviews.
So might be the next obvious choice.

However -

Different tryes often suit different cars...
So has anyone tried - Vredestein Ultrac Sessanta on Impreza after a diet of F1s or Toyos. Did the tyre suit the car?

Yes - I fitted a set of Sessantas in July. Brilliant tyres - the best I've used by a mile; excellent grip in all weathers and feel sure-footed on even the greasiest roads. Really good turn in and 'feel' through the steering wheel. Very low noise and extremely comfortable. Reasonably stiff sidewalls but no tramlining. Only downside is that they seem to be wearing quite quickly. I haven't compared them to the new Goodyear Assymetric F1s though. Hope this helps

 

Never used them on my sub, but always used vredestein sportrac 3 on my focus. By far the most grip i've ever had in the wet. Amazing tyres. different tyre to the sessantas but just thought i'd highlight how good vredesteins really are. I found them probably about average-good in the dry but safety in the wet was my aim and they were spot on!

They are not a tyre you hear that much about.

Final question
How do the Ultrac-Sessanta wear. Any better than the F1 or Toyo? Obviously I dont expect a ´´performance´´ tyre to last for too long.

 

Mine are wearing quite quick - had them on in July and covered about 10,000miles in them. I'll probably need to replace them in about another 5000miles

 

My RE070s are coming to the end of their life and looking to get some new tyres.

My favourite on my Classic were the F1 GSD3 but am now drawn to the Sessantas or the new F1 Asymmetric.

Do the Sessantas come in two flavours? ie left and right hand as they appear not only to be unidirectional but the banded side seems to be the outside.

I have to say the F1 Asymmetric looks a very boring tyre so I guess my preference is for the look of the Sessanta although it may depend on price in the end.

 

Im running 225/40/18 sessanta's at the moment just scrubbed them

Fantastic tyre.

I managed to get them local for £85 a corner fitted

 

Update - I'm going to have to replace my Sessantas very soon. Down to about the minimum tread I can get away with after just 10,000 miles in 7 months Now while I enjoy a bit of spirited driving from time to time, I would have hoped for nearer 15,000 miles. I shall try Goodyear Assymetrics next

 

Post up how they compare fella. Am real interested in what you think the pros and cons are

 

10k sounds pretty good, I doubt the goodyear will do better.

 

goodyears were awesome but lasted a mere 7k on my clio sport!!!!

Bloody hell guys - 10k sounds awfull to me!!!

I've been running Pirelli P zero's and BF Goodrich (Michelins' budget brand) on the front of my Newage (235x40x18) and I have never had less than 25k out of them, and I thought I drove pretty hard lol.

I have GSD 3's on the back and they seem to last around 30k which I think is more than acceptable.

I was going to try the Ultracs but may reconsider.

Put a set of F1 assymetrics 91y rating on my 2004 WRX last weekend. They have transformed the car, they seemed the best option all round. The life span is probably the downside. But if they are as good as everyone says this is something I can live with. 9/10k seems to be the norn. Was thinking of Yokahama 048rs but wasnt sure about the wet potential and the price! Got my Goodyears for £400 fitted and balanced,

 

Vredestein definitely know what they're doing when it comes to wet weather tyres. I had a set of Sportrac 3s on an old Focus and I've never had wet grip or feel like it in any car.

Absolutely brilliant tyres for the winter if your priority is grip/safety. The ones I had(and I'd imagine most of their decent tyres) were a really soft compound though. I wore out a set in less than 5k miles, although that was driven hard!

The wet grip with Sportrac 3(hardly a high performance road tyre) was better in my opinion than the Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetrics that I run on the ST170 Focus I have now. They keep biting at the road surface as opposed to cheaper tyres where the road feels like glass when you lose grip in the wet. Goodyears are good at giving you feel past the limit, but Vredesteins are superior in my opinion.
