GY F1 Asymmetric anyone got them yet..?
I'm very close to needing a new set of tyres and I've narrowed it down to these or the latest offering from Verdestein.
At the moment the Verdestein is favourite, largely due to the amount of people on here who really rate them, however I'm curious about the latest Goodyear asymmetric F1 as it's been getting some very good reviews (I've seen the EVO test..).
So, if anyone is currently running these GY's I'd be very interested to know your opinion..

I've done 2000 miles on a set and they are very very good. Always used the original F1s, but tried these when all four needed changing.
All the benefits of the original, but a smoother and quieter ride. Amazing cornering grip, car feels very stable and predictable.
I'm very impressed with them and will certainly replace with the same rather than the original F1s, mainly as they seem to be a lot quieter which suits the high mileage I do.
Having said all that, the original F1s were well worn, so my experience with the extra grip could be down to them just being new tyres, especially in the wet weather we've had recently. Overall big thumbs up from me.

Lol, still siting on the fence..!
I'm 80% to the GY asymmetric, just waiting for a few more people to give their opinions..
FWIW, had a bit of info from Mike Wood (prodrive incase anyone doesn't know..) and although he'd no experience of either of the new GY of Verdestein's, what he did say was that they always found heavily directional tyres to be a bit squirmy on a scoob..
So that would put the GY asymmetric at an advantage, however he also said the previous F1 was crap too, but then that was directional..!
My problem is 'a little knowledge can be dangerous'..!
PS can get the Verd's locally for £85/corner all in..!

jasonius, which Verd's are they, and what size?
I may be tempted by 215-45-17 if the price is that good!
I have always had either T1-R, tried the T1-S, too soft and life was poo.
So are the Verd's that good? Tell me more my learned friend!

Verdestein Ultrac Sessanta (ie latest one), I only know what a lot of people have been saying on here about how good they are on their scoobs and the fact that they came second to the new GY f1 asymmetric.
If it wasn't for the new GY looking so promising I'd have already bought a set of the verdesteins..!
I still have a tiny bit of tread on my T1-R's so I'm trying to decide which to go for. Might have to toss a coin in the end, as I doubt I'll be disappointed with either..
However, the verd's are cheaper by around £20/corner.
You got used to the performance yet and now wanting more..?

Update on my F1 As.'s
I've given them a good going in wet, very wet and dry conditions and am more than impressed. Only thing yet to judge is wear rates. All in all top tyre

Talk about being indecisive..!
Thanks for everyone's input.. TBH I don't think you'd go wrong with either of these two tyres. They both seem to have moved the game on a bit, hopefully..
Will report in due course..

They are actually called "vredestein"
Havnt used the new ones, but used nothing but vredestein sportrac 3's on my old car. Best wet grip i've ever had...cant rate them highly enough. Can only imagine the new ones will be better?

Should be getting them fitted in the morning..
I just hope they're as good as they're supposed to be and I don't end up wishing I'd gone for Vredesteins..
Will update after they've done a few miles..
PS PM me for phone number details of supplier if needed.

well they're fitted, and even though they're a bit 'squidgy' ATM (need to scrub in a bit) I've already got a good feeling about them..
Not that this matters, but IMHO they look very good too with the asymmetric tread pattern..
Another observation, they appear wider than the T1R's. Had to check that they were only 225's and not 235's..! I'm running 8J wheels BTW and they're wider than the rim, but at least they'll protect alloys better.!
I therefore wouldn't like them (225's) on a 7.5J and certainly not a 7J..!
Finally, I can highly recommend Tyres R Us, Moor Lane, Witton, Birmingham 0121 356 3387 (Andy), for price and service. These tyres are from very fresh stock (dated 50/07), which also makes a big difference BTW..!
Will add more once properly scubbed..

Just out of interest, where are the asymmetrics manufactured?
My fairly recently fitted GSD3s are Chinese made as they had run out of German stock and I feel they are a bit twitchy in greasy conditions.
Been tempted to get rid already, after a bit of a slide at quite a low speed! Never had any problems with the original Bridgestones (apart from the noise!)

It may be worth searching for a couple of longish threads which were doing the rounds a while back re sub standard GSD3s without E Marks.

New tyres definitely need to be run-in (scrubbed) for at least 100miles as gdavey says.
Some brands take longer. For instance my previous tyres Toyo T1R's were bordering on lethal for the first 100 and still very squirmy for 200 or so after that. Eventually they settled down quite nicely.
Hence my comments about my new asymmetric's, they don't feel 'too' bad to start with. I recon 100 miles should do it..
Iirc, it's to do with the lubricant they use to release tyres from their molds. Also, have you ever noticed how a brand new tyre tread is almost convex to the road, doesn't sit on the shoulders properly until it 'flattens' out after a few miles..?
I'll get some pics up of my new tyres (once I've washed car ) showing what I meant about them looking wider than the toyo's..

Hi Jasonius - I'd be very interested to hear your thoughts on the F1 Assymetrics. I've been running Vredestein Sessantas and while they were a great tyre (the best I've used to date), they've barely lasted 10,000 miles - replacing tyres every 8 months isn't something I really want to do
Also I have 17 x 7.5 rims - my Sessantas are 225/45 so will be interested to see what you mean about tyre width.
Cheers, Andrew

Maybe there are just some slippery roads round here. The tyres are fine in the wet (even monsoons), it's just when the roads are greasy like now.
