I had Yokahama Parada Spec 2's on my classic - awesome in the dry; but lethal in the wet!

There's been a lot of talk on here about tyre choices. Mostly down to personal preference, but the ones that seem most popular are the Goodyear F1's & Toyo's T1S or T1R...

The problem you'll have though is that extended tyre life & grip are not always compatable....

I do 32,000 miles a year in my 06 STi and have always used Goodyear F1s.

Look to get 15-17000 on a set of fronts and the rears are coming up for replacement shortly with 28000 on them.

Excellent grip and well worth it.

I didn't think I would meet anyone with a 2.5 STI who did more miles than me - I only do 21,000.
Prefer the Michelin PS2s though.
Do you not rotate with a view to giving the center diff an easier time?

Have a look on the Camskill website. I think the Rs are newer more expensive model.

yeah, the toyo proxes t-1r tyres have a like a band on the outer edges for water re-direction or something like that. theyre supposed to be better in the wet for this reason.

both excellent tyres, but ive had 2 sets of t-1rs on my scoob this year (both 215/40/17 with no major probs)

Personal oppinion:

But I think Toyo's are one of the best tyres on the market.

S's handle really well in the dry but not as good as R's in the wet.

But there are new Toyo's that havent been out long called R888's, these are meant to out perform the R's and S's.

I would rather have a trye that didn't last as long but gripped well when I used it.

The R888's are the semi-slicks.
Very expensive, and 'interesting' in the wet

I have used Toyo T1R's for the last 2 years, but haven't been blown away by them. Will try the Parada Spec 2's next to get a comparison.

Eagle F1's good all-rounder and well-priced, got about 20k out of the fronts.
Toyo T1'S very sticky in the dry, ok in the wet with plenty of tread. Wore down too quickly for my liking though, i.e. c.15k from the fronts.

I had serious problems with the alignment on the car and went though 3 sets of fronts to the one set of rears. Ill probably replace all 4 next month, now the alignment problem seems to have been sorted, and rotate them from then on every 7500 or so.

By the way, my mileage has dropped slightly, it was 36,000 last year

Odd really, am I the only person expecting toyo's next tyre to be the T1t?

I have just got my 2nd set of T1R's put on yesterday i got 22000 out of them which i found amazing due to the high amount of shall we say spirited driving.
Very good in the dry lovely progresive breakaway and big "slides" and remarkably grippy in the wet!!

I'm running F1's at the moment, so much better than the toyo's T1s I had on before,I ran F1's before the toyos and got 25K out of those and only managed 18k out of the toyo's, The grip was ok with toyos but not not very good in the wet, standing water was leathel.

The only tyres I would consider if I couldn't get F1's is the vredestiens, Michilen or continentals but all cost more money

Hi monkey,

I have driven hard in wet & dry conditions on bridgestone re070, pirelli corsa, toyo proxys, f1 eagle & vredestein ultra in the last couple years so hopefully my comments below will help you decide.

vredestein best overall in dry & wet conditions - very sure footed almost as good as re070 & corsa in dry, better in wet. better than toyo in dry & wet, better than f1 in dry, about the same wet. good thing about this tyre is that it has hard tyre walls just like the re070 which suit car's weight and hard driving. Also fairly refined on noise.

re070 joint best overall in dry and also an excellent track tyre , fine in wet but not standing water, problems with greasy conditions.

corsa ioint best overall in dry but does not last as long as re070 , fine in wet but not standing water, problems with greasy conditions, noiser than re070.

f1, ok in dry but behind but corsa, re070 & vredestein, better than corsa & re070 in the wet and quieter. tyre walls not hard enough so handling is not as direct as the above two. better than toyo dry & wet

toyo, last overall as tyre walls not hard enough - only better in wet than re070 & corsa but worst than f1 & vredestein in dry & wet conditions

PS: check out mocom's SN discounts currently on the vredesteins at the moment - see link below.

The Toyo T1r does now have a stiffened side wall the previous T1S didn't so it make's sense what you say about it being soft.

Another vote for Vredestein Sessantas - had these on for 4 months now and they're truly excellent; terrific grip in dry, damp/greasy and wet conditions, good steering feel and feedback, excellent ride quality and low noise. Also seem to be wearing very well so far. Before that have tried F1s. T1Rs etc

As Cster. Note the Tir's have been found to have great wet weather grip in tests (and by me in practice !).

Best choices IMHO are Toyo T1R, Goodyear F1 (91 rated sidewalls for durability) and The Michelin PS2.

I've used T1R's for a while and they were fine. Now got Toyo Proxes 4 which is the next version up - excellent in the dry and now in the wet but it took a couple of weeks for them to really develop full wet grip - Camskill are doing them for about £60 delivered.

Sorry but the T1R is still Toyo's top of the range road tyre the Toyo Proxes 4 is the mid range performance tyre.

Mine are due to replace again - I only managed 7,500 out of the original Bridgestones, and now 7,500 out of the goodyear F1's.......what next ? (other than check my tracking again ! - had this done after about 6,000 on the Bridgestones !)..

I wouldn't call my general driving spirited, more old man with the occasional short sprint.

I am thinking about the T1R

PS: Its the fronts that really die - rears would last a little longer.
