Default Wheel wobble

I've just fitted a set of (second hand, but newly refurbed) Rota Tarmac 2's in 18" with brand new Falken 452's. put them on last week and everything was fine. now for some reason I'm now getting a vibration through the steering wheel at 60-80mph. I've swapped front to rear & its the same.

Car is a 99 UK Classsic. I don't know whether to go to Revolution later to see if they can re-balance the wheels or just swap them back to my original 16's

any help would be good.

Thanks in advance

well, i've just had my wheels balanced at Revolution, apparently they were way out. however the wobble is no better and they managed to curb one of the rims and have yet to admit it..

not pleased at all, hopefully their good customer service reputation will prove itself

Hi Jon

Could be one or more of the wheels is bent although what you describe sounds like wheel balance is out.

Revolution said the wheels arent bent & have also agreed to refurb the curbed wheel, fair play to them for doing that.

they think they might need spigot rings.....

Didn't you get any rings with them? I haven't ever fitted aftermarket wheels without using them tbh.

i had exactly the same thing on my99 classic. Bought 18's with decent avon tyres- was fine for two weeks then started to get a wobble and vibration through the steering wheel and kept getting worse!

Anyway to cut a long story short - i took the car to my local tyre place to get them balanced (coz thats what i thought was wrong) and upon taking off the front passengers side wheel the guys face dropped

On the tyre wall (inside of wheel, so you couldn't see it) was a huge bulge about 10cm long

The guy couldn't believe it hadn't popped yet, as it was that big and soft!! could of been nasty he reckoned

So put the spare biscuit wheel on for the way home and had to get another tyre!

This might not be your problem but it's well worth checking your tyres properly!! (unlike me)

Good luck

spoke to a mate about it who fits tyres & apparently the red/yellow dots are supposed to line up with the valves, well mine don't....
