Is there any alternatives to the standard brake pads?

I need to know what pads are the best for MY98 2 pots UK car

 

I have 98MY standard discs and pads. Would only want to change the pads as the discs still have plenty of life. Better braking, but less dust would be ideal.

 

Ferodo DS2000 then (Prodrive upgrade) from your friendly local Subaru dealer. Or Mintex 1155. Or Pagid Blues.

I'm not sure what you mean by 'better braking' though. All these are higher rated pads and will run better hotter, but maybe not quite so well when cold. They may lack the initial bite which many people associate with good brakes (often wrongly).

Also, if you use your brakes hard, these pads can warp the discs. That's why I'd go for the Prodrive pads as despite their price, they are fully guaranteed and you should get any warped discs replaced. Best check with dealer first.

You're welcome. But I've forgotten to mention the most obvious upgrade for you - a pair of 4-pot calipers off a 99/00 car.

IIRC you'll also need new discs but otherwise they should bolt straight on. You've got 16in wheels, haven't you?

4-potters are often for sale in the private section when folks up-grade to big-brake set-ups, or place a wanted ad. About £200 seems to be the going rate.

Careful, I seem to remember that the 16" wheel on MY98 would not clear the MY99/00 4 pots, even though it looks the same. Not totally sure but best to check.

Oh and my 4pots with DS2000's work from cold as well as the standard pads, but you can still fade them if you really try

HARRYLEE/ALANJACK IF YOU ARE JUST USEING THE CAR FOR ROAD WHY NOT TRY PAGID FAST ROAD PADS,THEY ARE A BARGAIN COMPARED TO ROAD/RACE PADS.I HAVE THEM FITTED ALL ROUND TO MY96 WAGON AND CAN SAY THEY ARE A GREAT IMPROVEMENT ON STANDARD PADS!

I'm currently running EBC Greenstuff pads, and also willwood drilled and vented discs. Why? well when replacing the totally shot OEM setup the above bits were actually a bit cheaper than OEM stuff, so thought I'd give it a shot. They do seem pretty good I must say, not had any problems stoping with them. Though I've only ever used them on the road, never been on track. One thing to add, I tend to drive on my brakes, thus I expect excessive wear, but nope it's all fine.

 

I have a 95 WRX RA fitted with 16" wheels. The current calipers are 2 pot and weigh 2 tonne !
Do I need to fit discs with a different offset to use the STi type 4 pot calipers or can I retain my discs ?
Are the Si 4 pots the same as MY00 uk 4 pots ? and assuming they are steel ??? are they much lighter than 2 pots ??
