Question

There's a nice series of back roads near me that I often drive late at night. As you come back into the houses, the speed limit drops down to 30 at the end of a nice straight, just before a 90 left corner.

Hence, you anchor on to shed off the speed. There's a bump in the road in braking 'area' and as you go over it, the brake pedal goes down even further (almost like they've faded to nothing), think Flintstone stylee. The 1st time it was a bit of a scare but I'm ready for it now.

Is this something a brake support bracket would help prevent? Or is it just the natural forces at work?

MY99 UK with std pads + discs for the record.

TIA,

Chris.

AFAIK the brake support bracket (I have one) only stops the initial bulkhead flex (of at least an inch !!) when you apply the brakes, although I suppose it is possible that the bulkhead is moving even further when you hit the bump, in which case it may work.

Other thing it could be is that one or more of the wheels are lifting off of the road when you hit the bump and fooling the ABS into thinking that there is no load and the pedal goes to the floor (this also happens in the ice when the car is sliding)

Stainless braided brake lines will also roughly half the pedal travel in my experience with OEM four pots and 1155 pads and Black Diamond discs.
