Hi,

I have finally decided to upgrade the standard wheels on my Scoob mY00, but I have a couple of questions that the so called "experts" can't agree on when I ring them. Can anyone help?!!!!

Will 225x35x18 tyres fit with no mods or rubbing?

Which size (17 or 18) will give the best handling improvments?

What is the best make of tyre to go for (not bothered about cost)?

Will upgraded calipers fit OK with 17/18" tyres?

Should I go for 7/7.5/8" wide wheels.

Where can I get Radius R3 wheels at a good price (tyre and wheel package)

Cheers

PS - Please help.

http://www.scoobynet.co.uk/bbs/thread.asp?threadid=49486. Back may rub unless you drive like a wuss. J.

More rubber - more grip. Lower profile - less tyre roll.

Value/dry grip - Yokahama AVS

AP4Pots and 330mm disks go OK.

Definately 8".

Hope it helps.

Don't know about 225's rubbing but 215's definitely don't rub with Radius R3's in 18". Even lowered.....though not tooo low!!

Rob, I'd speak to Pete Croney at ScoobySport. He knows the answers because he's tried them all and will also be delighted to sell you some of his wheels, no doubt.

For what it's worth, I think 215mm wide is the safe limit for an MY00 car. And anything wider really needs 8in rims if you're to make the most of the lower profile. 8in will give you rubbing trouble. And stay well clear of pot-holes with 18s

I've got Radius R3 17x7. They're too heavy and soft for my liking but I bought them second-hand with tyres on and they look good. After I'd flatted two of them hitting a piece of wood, I searched high and low for new ones. No luck. Six weeks wait. Then stumbled into Halfords (Ripspeed) and asked if they could get me a pair. "Yes, sir. They'll be here within three days. £149 each." Yeah, right. Sure they will.

And of course they weren't ready in three days as I got a call 36hrs later to say my wheels were ready for collection. My gast was flabbered, as they say.

Richard.
