Default 18" Wheels at what cost

Hi i have a 2001 new age WRX and am thinking of changing the OEM 17" wheels to 18" with 225/40/18. Would this modification have any effect on the handling or the ride of the car or alter anything about the cars performance at all.

normally when you change the wheel size the tire size is changed to suite. eg the 17's on my classic are lower profile than the 16's as standard.

The ride will be slightly harder due to less rubber to take impact but other than that just changing wheels wont have much affect (thats as i understand it anyway)

225/40 is the recommended size for a newage and shouldn't rub (215/35 is for a classic).
