Question My 98 Brake set-up

Good evening all,

I'm hoping some of you may be able to help me.

I have a my98 uk wagon with the lovely 2 pots as standard. Due to having Prodrive twin spoke wheels (17"...4 pots a no no ) and a rather limited budget making me unable to buy new wheels, I have reached that stage when my discs are rarther worn and its time for a replacement.

What I am hoping is:

a) What discs and pad combo would you recommend? (Bearing in mind i'm sticking to 2 pots)
b) Is grooved/drilled etc a benefit?
c) Braided hoses?
d) How much roughly and where's the best place to shop? (Obviously not too much £££'s please as it would be easier to buy new wheels and get 4's)

I have seen a few that I may be interested in, EBC, Red Dot, Black diamond etc but was hoping some of you may have past experience with these???

Many thanks in advance for any help.

if you run a 4mm wheel spacer the 4 pots will fit under your wheels , just get some good quality spacers not the crappy ones like Halford sell

I would contact Ian at www.godspeedbrakes.co.uk and ask him whats best.

The spacer option sounds quite good as its very similar to what my 335mm kit uses. I only have 2-3mm of clearance between the 4 pots and the ST2 wheels I use, but no problems over the last 2 years.

Thanks for your replies, tbh I was trying to stay away from spacers as you do hear some stories about wheel bearings and the studs etc... I did have some 4 pots on my old scoob which did make a difference, I had some my00 6 spoke 16'son that one... I have contemplated changing wheels but its all down to cost (as with everything), I was seeing if there was any way that the 2's on the car could just be made better really.

Any ideas/thoughts welcome, I will contact godspeed and get some advice also.

Thanks again,

It all depends on how you drive. Some people 'get away' with the 2 pots and don't have any problems. Others are harder on their brakes, or don't drive properly and need AP 6 pots.

Try some braided hoses, new fluid (a good one) and something like Mintex 1155 pads. These need to be bedded in properly or they'll squeal at low speed, but are a good pad.

Dave.
