Default yet another tedoious brake problem...

right, got bad brake fade on my classic, doesnt help that its got 2pots! Any way, pads are ok, i understand that its worth changing brake fluid but ive had a look and mines is fine....still topped up and clean, theres also a squeaking sound when do brake, not sure about the discs but i should know over the weekend hopefully! anyone have any ideas or similar experiences?

..And is it still worth getting new brake fuid? I really wanna sort it asap as ii should think it could have unpleasant consequences!!

Thanx in advance guys

well, basiccally brake pedal is a bit spongy and must be pressed quite deep to stop the car, even then it takes a little while

cheers

It's not just whether the fluid is topped up and clean mate. The quality of the fluid is critical. You might want to change to a fluid you know is DOT5.1 rated and see if that helps. Braided hoses will help with pedal feel. What kind of pads are on the car?

last year,i changed the standard discs, pads, fluid and fitted braided hoses and it transformed the braking over the standard set-up. i fitted tarox 40 groove discs up front with ebc redstuff pads, black diamond hoses and used castrol 5.1 synthetic brake fluid. iam alot more confident with late/high speed braking now!

almost definately a fluid/sytem issue..................would suggest as a minimum 'flushing' thro' with a good quality fluid

Whilst were on the subject. Sorry Zakk not trying to Hijack your thread.
How often should the brake fluid be changed.
Only reason is that I just changed the rear calipers today (recon) plus new pads fronts & rears & just topped up the fluid, however the fluid was flushed & changed for dot 5.1 last year.

What should the brake pedal feel like? as it did feel a bit spongy.
Would this mean the fluid is to old now or have I not fully bleed the system correctly.
I only bleed the rear calipers after I had changed them.

I have the standard crap pads at the mo and I definetley agree that changing the system is the right move, however im just after a quick fix for the next month or two, just to imrove on what is pretty poor braking. thanx guys.

personal recomend on a road car is every 2yrs..............however if you are doing trackdays, etc. then more often as required - to the point where on most competition cars we flush the system before every event!!

if you fitted rear calipers and only bled the rear system you may find that you have let a small amount of air into the fronts as the systems are linked.........
