Default serious brake fade my99

went for a good blast over the tops near me at weekend for about half hour just to rekindle the scooby love as ive not been out for a blast in weeks. the brakes have never felt great so i now have godspeed disks and tar-ox pads on the front with standard set up on rear. all fitted about 1500 miles ago. as i came home i pulled up to a junction hit the brakes and nothing happened! only just stopped in time after forcing the pedal hard as i could. is this really normal for a my99 uk turbo or is something wrong? when i got home all the brakes were burning hot and steaming like mad if i splashed water on them. is there anything that can be done without shelling out loads on big brakes? maybe better fluid or something or am i just stuck with it? cheers leon

Dot 5 fluid may help a little, also might be worth matching the rear pads to the same material as the fronts....

hello mate... ive gotta my99 turbo too and it suffered from same prob... i started by replacing front discs and pads with ebc greenstuff... this helped things but still wasnt perfect so replaced rears with standard discs and pads... again improved things but not happy!! took some advice from a local scoob specialist and he replaced brake fluid.... spot on!! only cost £37 and made the world of difference... he reckoned this should be done every 2 years and it looked like it never been changed... hope this helps..

Never had this on my MY00 on which I have DOT 5.1 fluid, goodridge hoses, grooved discs and Ferodo DS2500 pads front and rear... Have managed to crack the front discs though!

Did happen once on a blobeye WRX I borrowed... not an experience I would like to repeat!

what fluid is fitted by main dealer? should i be upgrading to something better? also is it normal that my godspeed disks start to rust on the face after 2 days of not driving? cant ever remember noticing on any other car ive owned.

Surface rust is nothing to worry about, and if you want decent fluid used in the brake system, buy it and give it to the dealer to use.....
