Unhappy ABS Problem

I have a MY96 Wagon (UK) and recently my ABS warning light came on.
I booked it into Bell&Colville who spent a whole day checking things (allegedly) to diagnose a faulty ABS unit..... they claimed sensors were all ok(they also, kindly, didn't charge me a whole days labour!).
I enquired about a new part only to be told it would be £1100 + vat + fitting!! Obviously I said no thanks, I'll try and source a second hand one.
This I did and have just had it fitted at Subaru4you. This didn't clear the warning light!! Len also said it was difficult to interrogate ABS system to find out what might be wrong..... does anyone have any ideas please?! I'm now overdue an MOT, which this would fail me on!
Cheers
Iain
