Question Goodyear Eagle F1 Vs Toyo Proxes T1S

Anyone got any views on how these 2 tyres compare?

Got the goodyears on at the mo but need a couple of new ones - although Camskill are doing an offer of doing all 4 Toyo's for £295.

Very similar, F1's a small bit grippier in dry and a bit grippier agian in the wet. Both have similar tread, soft sidewalls, similar wear, similar handling but Toyo's are cheaper.

Have found that the eagles are better overall but the price difference does not warrant the gain you get in my oppinion. The price of 295 seems expensive. My 205/40/17's cost me about 45 plus vat fitted balanced etc. Thats not a deal thats just the cost to jo public.

Ditto MarksWRX - I could probably do a 500 mile round trip to have them fitted and still be quids in...

Erm... surely for 17" rims, you want 215's not 205's??

It depends on what set up you're running. My car with Eibachs was hopeless with Toyos fitted and very scary in the wet compared to the GSD3s which have the added bonus of no understeer which was another problem with the Toyos.

They may work well on your car, however.

I'll second that.

I've got the toyo's on an MY02STI, bog standard car except for PPP.
Worst tyre ever in my opinion, **** on damp, slightly less **** in the wet, OK in the dry.

Never again will I buy these things, I have had the F1's which were a completly different tyre, but they'll not last too long.

I'll third that ..
I've had both Toyo's and F1's on my 200sx and to say the rear end was a nightmare to control is an understatement, the Toyo's were only on for 3 weeks, i rapidly changed them to F1's, which i should have done in the first place but the toyo's were being done at such a good deal ....
Never, Never again will i have Toyo's - they don't inspire confidence ... but again its only my opinion .....
I did measure the width of both tyre's and the Toyo has half a cm less tread in contact with the road than the F1.

Interesting... I may have to give them (F1's) a try next time Im ready for some new tyres, although the T1-Rs seem to be lasting rather well compared to the T1-S's. I've always thought the slight difference in grip didnt warrant in the extra cost but I may investigate a bit more

Just found out that the supplier of my T1-R's has gone and sold them to someone else - maybe someone's trying to tell me something...

We'll let them bed in a bit first, but after that I'll just wish you good luck.
Having said all that, its depends on how you drive too.

Take your self off and buy some new boxers beforehand

must admit i found the toyo's just how you describe,ok on dry use ok'ish in the wet but in the slightly moist/damp conditions i found them terrible, the only tyres i have used that i rate all round are the f1's and the b.stone s-02pp's.i've got a set of alloys on order and was gonna give the michelin ps2's a try as these are suppose to be a new contender for the top.

F1s are the best tyres I have used on my STI02 by a large margin. Quite staggering wet weather grip compared to the OE Bridgestone RE040. I read a tyre test in Autocar and from 60 mph on flooded skid pan the F1s stopped the car (Toyota Celica I think) in 7 meters less than any other tyre, Bridgestone S02PP and S03PP were also in the test, F1 caned them in wet and equal performance in the dry.
F1s definitely the leader in wet conditions, not quite the best in the dry this was Michelin Pilot Sport but the F1s won the test overall. The only drawback is you sacrifice longetivity for grip but well worth it in my opinion.

Although, having said that the GSD3s were the dog's danglies I'm going to try Pirelli Neros next as I'm moving up to 18" wheels so I'll report back although the difference in wheel size is sure to have some impact on grip.

I just bought some 205-40-17 T1-S's for £59.90 each from mills auto's. Haven't fitted them yet as i've got a wheel nut that is completely jammed on and needs the stud removing. Should be done by Monday night. Looking forward to testing the Toyo's.

Talking Thank god for that!

Well I had my brand new Toyo T1-R's fitted today.

All I can say is fantastic

Do not believe these people who knock them, they are stunning on a damp greasy road. The drive to mortenhampsted was along typical damp Dartmoor roads and my Goodyear GSD3's were locking up for fun. Toyo's fitted and stunning levels of grip.

I must say on my MY97 I am thrilled, maybe the guys with the higher spec/newer cars have a very different geometry setup that either uses the GSD3's really well or the Toyo's poorly?

Any how I will report back on the performance in different conditions.

I am really thrilled at the moment.

The biggest annoyance was the price, black circles did the 4 (215/40 r17) were £410 fitted. After lots of badgering they told me they could have done them for £77 a corner fitted

So ring mid devon tyres in mortenhampsted and say mike with the dark green subaru wagon sent you!!!

You like them then Mike?

I know what yer saying, I find that in the dry, the grip is very good, in the very wet again, very good... on damp greasy roads.. pretty similar to most performance tyres... they're good upto a point.. at which, you shouldnt be doing that sort of thing on public roads in those type of conditions anyway

J

BTW: I have an STi V5 Type R, roughly 330 -340 BHP (at the moment )

I have had several sets of F1 GD3s on several cars. Better than anything else I have used to date. 215 40 17. Increased tyre pressure ensures there is less wall flex. On Thursday I fitted a set of T1R 215 40 17 as I was impressed with the Toyo T1S on Alan Bells car (215 35 18) and if the advertising blurb is true (and it may not be) the T1R are even better in the rain.
Most miles since in that car have been motorway or in dry cross country but I will report my findings when they have been properly tried in the wet.

I've had the T1-Rs on mine now for nearly 7000 miles, normally by this stage the T1-Ss I used to use would be pretty well scrubbed on the inside and outside shoulders, but the new ones look absolutely fine, not scrubbed at all!

OK, so the T1-R's must be substancially better that the T1-S's then.
I can honestly tell you that there is absolutely no grip at all from these things in the damp.

As I said before - OK in the dry, so so in the wet, but scarey in damp or greasy conditions.

Who sells the macarroni tyres then John?
After some hard driving today I am impressed with the T1R but have to run them in heavy rain to make a final assessment.
