No it's not pointless. Brake fade is caused by the pads getting too hot for their compound. Road pads will be OK from cold but at a certain temperature, like 400 or 500 degC they will stop gripping the disc, this is brake fade.

You can stop this by either fitting a pad which keeps working at high temps or by reducing the temps.

Fast road pads like Ferodo DS2500, Mintex M1144, Pagid RS4-2-1 still work OK cold (perhaps not quite as well but well enough to not be unsafe) but keep gripping at high temperatures. This sounds like what you need.

Race pads like M1155, RS14 will go even hotter (so good for track days) but will be not so good first corner on a cold winter morning.

Reducing the temps means a bigger diameter or thicker brake disc. Seriously expensive to fit to a standard car.

Flame suit on - I'll stick my neck out here and say uprated standard size discs, crossdrilled, grooved, both or whatever, are a marketing gimmick and no better than a standard disc...... Only exception is two piece discs with ally bells, no better cooling but more warp resistant (and lighter) than one piece.

I'd recommend AS Performance. These guys give excellent advice and service.

I also have uprated pads with OEM discs. Much better value for money than sourcing Subaru parts from a dealer. To get the most from this setup you should also look into getting braided hoses and decent fluid as this also helps with pedal feel.

I had 1155 with 2 pot and there was no problem with cold braking. Only in winter when temp was under -10°C but still at level OE pads. Only big problem is disc life span OE disc can last up to 10 000km A very good pad, no fade no bed in ... if you have disc manufacture )))ň
If you need have some tatoo on disc go for grooved it can help deglass pads.
