Anyone tried EBC red stuff CERAMIC pads?
I have used the red stuff pads before and they wear out quicker than I wear myself out on a 100 metre sprint.
I have now been offered EBC red stuff CERAMIC pads. I didnt realise these existed. I thought the idea of ceramics was as with the 911 GT3 that you use ceramic disks and pads. They dont fade, they dont wear and shouldnt need replacing (unless you read the problems porsche are having with them of course).
The questions are, what would happen with ceramic pads and metal disks? Would the pad wear quickly or slowly? What would the braking power be like? What would the ceramic affect be on the disks? and would this totally eliminate the pas transfer problem?
I will ring the supplier ina bit to ask these questions but thought i would see if any of you had any first hand experience first?

Hi m8, just put some in my Sti a couple of weeks ago,, the standard Brembo Sti pads were crap to say the least... very little feel and i could kill them in one or two brake brakes, at the last trackday i lost the pedal after two corners... now got the new red stuff's in and th feel has improved quite a bit , but the biggest difference is how hard you can brake now... they really do stop even with my braking after a few corners i can cook most brakes but the last track day and they didn't fade once... very impressed... the amount of energy they soak up is very impressive... big stops are now problem..
Will upgrade the disks some point but the pads are bang on...
hope this helps...

Daz,
Are they standard red stuff pads or the new Red stuff ceramic?
I have spoken to EBC today and they tell me the following.
Green stuff pads ----- fine for hot hatches but should never be used on cars over 200BHP and definately never on the track
Red stuff pad----------Fine for road use including 4wd cars with over 200bhp such as subarus, but never be used on the track
Red stuff ceramic------Fine for track use
Yellow stuff ----------Fine for track use
Thats their official line

Greens - generally up to 200BHP. Can be used on track, plenty VX220 drivers use them on track days. More powerful but light cars also no problems.
Redstuff V1, V2 or V3 - Road use and occasional track day. 200BHP or above and / or 4WD cars.
Redstuff Ceramic - Road use and occasional track day. 200BHP or above and / or 4WD cars.
Yellows and Blues - Track pad only.
Also, Redstuff Ceramic is not a full blown Ceramic pad AKA Porsche Ceramics. It contains many materials one of those being Ceramic fibres.

Buck,
I stand corrected on one of your points and for that I apologise. I was told by the EBC technical dept that the green stuff pad was for hot hatches or LIGHT cars over 200BHP but certainly not for use on Subaru / EVO on the track.
I was however told that the red stuff pad (non ceramic) should NEVER be used on the track in cars such as Subaru / Evo etc.
It is as you point out on the ceramic and yellowstuff pads.
Perhaps you should have a chat with your guys. I was speaking to one of them on the phone while he was at EBC themselves yesterday. He handed the phone to one of EBC's own technical support dept, who explained the facts to me.
regards
Gary
I will be trying the ceramic pads next I think.

Try Giving Camsport a bell, www.camsport.co.uk
They are very helpful and will not try and sell you a set of pads, just because you ask about them

Hi Gary
No need to apologise!
The Redstuff Ceramic is quite new.
Redstuff V1, V2, V3 were the prior verisions of the Redstuff Ceramic pad and have been a roadsport pad / track day pad for high performance cars.
The actual wording "Redstuff" (V1, V2, V3) from the product box in my hands, "Redstuff, EBC's semi-metallic "track day" or light rally use pad, also suitable for heavier / faster street cars. Effective up to 750C with medium lifetime."
EBC brakes direct is a completely seperate company to EBC Brakes. We are a main distrubutor for EBC products and are in contact daily with EBC's technical department.
I don't know who you spoke to, but as stated in my earlier post regarding compounds, that is how I understand them to be.
Ceramics are the recommended pad for Impreza's / EVO's etc.
Regards
Buck

I am also running these at the moment.
I too prefer them to my previous pads which were the highly regarded DS2500s. To be honest I can't really fault them and they even through off less muck than the DS2500s too.
Go on buy them!
