Hi Sam

Ive got the 308mm brembo kit. Much better than the old 2 pots MY97. I got my local garage to fit them. Went on with no problems. Not so keen on the DS2000 pads. I prefer my mintex 1155 pads, even though they squeal at low speeds( doesnt bother me). The DS2000 are ok but I like the extra bite the mintex seem to give.

ERIK Getting old of Ian can be difficult, but just keep ringing. I found mornings to be the best time to get hold of him.

By the way I had ordered a set of hispec calipers etc, then I read the thread about poor discs and non existent customer relations. so cancelled my order double quick.

Andy

Thanks problem solved.

Do you thing that 1155 squeal? Try Tarox meteal ceramic disc but sell it after 5 000km, they last up to 10 000km and cost with pads over 1200€...that is the reason why I swapping for Godspeed now.

Iam still waiting for Brembos. Ordered together with VW Passat disc and they are not ready yet. Ian said he can send it today ....
Iam using Motul Racing fluid for few years and have no problem. I saw DOT4 fluid approx 6 years ago last time After 3 years with Castrol SRF and 3 ith Motul (a bit cheaper) still no leaks and ABS works 1000% well.

If you havent good reason stay wit DOT4 go for higher one. It is all about boiling point you going to buy good brakes and with lower rated fluid should be unable push it to real limit fluid will slow you on track.

SRF is highest rated fluid over all DOT. Is must be changed every 16 or 18 months and Castrol advice change rubber seals on whole brake system every 2 years. Mine is still good after 6years
Great fluid.

Why dont you get Ian to drop some fluid in with your kit mate. Sent me two bottles of 5.1 for a reasonable price and saved me a trip to Halfords

i bought the 335mm kit on a group buy last year. very happy with the results. ds2000 pads are a bit dusty though. ian can be a complete bollix to get a hold off but then again he is a busy man. just keep trying and he will answer you in the end.

cheers

the DOT rating only mildly takes temp. ability into account, its main feature relates to the "hydroscopic" nature of the fluid (how it attracts moisture)...........DOT5.1 (in most cases) only relates to the ability to repel water and DOESN'T imply a performance character!! certain DOT4 fluids outperform in fade resistance!!!!

make sure you investigate the temp. ratings to ensure you are getting what you are paying for (motul dot5.1 is one of the better at this level at around £6/500ml)

Castrol SRF is a brand name for a v.high performance RACING fluid however, because it has little moisture repellence ability (in terms of road fluids) it does not pass the DOT tests (neither do most race specific fluids like AP600 or MOTUL RBF!!)

wouldn't personally recomend race fluids for road cars at most levels because of the need to repeatedly monitor the brake system.........

Default For anyone looking to get a Brembo conversion...

Fitted the calipers over the weekend in the back shed, also changed the existing rear hose's in the rear for a Braided pair. Picked up 1L of Castrol DOT 4 Brake Fluid costing £7.99 from Halfords.

Bleed'ed the brakes, and they seemed little or actually very spongy. So thought id bleed them again incase there was still any air stuck in the system, had to run out to Halfords to get more fluid as i did not want to run short on a Sunday evening..

Brakes still spongy..!

Problems Encountered: Spongy Brake pedal.
Problem Solution: Turn the calipers around so that the bleed nipple is at the top..(hence the reson why i was not getting many bubles from bleeding)

I assumed that my exisiting Hose's would fit, so i turned the calipers in a way they would fit on.

Spoke to Ian who will send out the new hose's..

Anyway they are fitted and look superb...can't wait till i get the hose's tommrow, and get back in the shed, and bleed those brakes again (painfull slow procedure)

HELP:
Caliper Paint Color Code:
I will be spraying my rear claipers the same red as the brembo's, has anyone got the part numbers for the paint, or know where i can go to get a color match done?

Bleeding Process:
Is there a correct way of bleeding, as in what wheel to start and to finish at?

My rear calipers are hand painted with Hammerite Smooth red. I defy anyone to look at the car from normal viewing distances and tell me it's a different colour!
