Question Poor performance braking

I have just ‘upgraded’ from a MY94 to a MY99 and the braking is no-where near as positive as my earlier model. The MY94 did have aftermarket front discs (grooved and drilled – not sure on brand) and the MY99 appears to have standard braking all round – the dealer did change the front pads prior to purchase, but probably not top-notch ones. Any suggestions on a ‘budget’ upgrade – or do you think I have a fault with my system. You really have to STAND on the pedal…

has the fluid been changed recently?? back calipers seized?? these are the most common braking issues we tend to come across with "main dealer" serviced cars!!
if you've just had new pads fitted were they "bedded-in"?? if not you may find that you have 'glazed' the surface, resulting in v.poor friction..............

What's the best way to change the brake fluid, what method do you use ?

MY96 Turbo with ABS.

Contact Jim Curly at Star Performance, I've lost the number but they are on the net. Buy some Stoptech Grooved Rotors (not drilled as they can split), and some Axxis Ceramic Enhanced pads in all approx £140 ish. Bed the brakes in properly by accelerating to 60 and brake hard just enough to bring in anti lock but do'nt stop, accelerate again to 60 and do the same again, continue for 8 attempts, and then drive for 10 mins with little braking to cool the brakes. When cold after approx 2 hours do it again, there should be a blue haze on the discs and good bite when applying the brakes. DO NOT sit with the brakes on stationary when doing the above as you will bugger it all up by leaving pad material stuck to the discs.

I tried this at the weekend with the above pads and they are truly superb, and at half the price of Ferodo etc.
