Angry Corroded PD7's ?

Washed the car yesterday and gave the 17" PD7wheels a good scrub to get the brake dust off and then noticed to my horror that the centre of the wheel near the centre cap had corrosion bubbleing up under the paint work of the wheel. And not just the one, two of these wheels, only 2 years old are starting to corrode.
I used to think what a great paint surface these had as the brake dust just falls off them but as for corrosion under the paint!

Has any one else come across this problem on Prodrive wheels?
Is there likley to be any sort of warrenty on them?

How regularly do you clean them? All the salt we have on our roads over the winter can play havoc with paint finishes. Doubt there would be any warranty after 2 years, but you never know.

They get washed every week and even with the winter road salt you don't expect them to corrode under un-marked wheel paint.
I've got the odd kerb scuff on the outer edges but there is no sign of corrosion there.
Might try the dealer and see where I get.

Just plain old water!
That's the beauty of these wheels, the brake dust just falls off without any nasty chemical cleaners.
That's what makes it all the more supprising that there is the signs of corroding under the paint. If I could get a colour paint match for the paint I'd have a go at rubbing down the corroded areas and re painting.

Good luck with getting the paint code. In all these years I've yet to find someone who could quote the paint code for the Oz WRC1 wheels in anthracite as fitted to the P1. Hope you have more success with the PD7s.

Or, alternatively, if you can't bare the sight of them any more and just want shot, I'm interested, get in touch.

Soap and water works, it just takes forever due to the design of the wheel. And keeping them clean is impossible (Pagid RS4-2.1). Of course, a couple of coats of wax helps (a little). I have used <cough>Wonder Wheels<cough>, but only once, though. Worked a treat.

Wonder wheels is supposed to be one of the harshest wheel cleaners available! Could definitely affect the finish if you're not careful.

Agree with slowboy there, if you have chipped paint on alloys and use wonder wheels your asking for trouble.
That's why i've stuck with soap & water, works a treat as long as you don't let the muck build up (DS2500 in Alcon's) plus the fact that PD7's only have 7 easy clean spokes!
Still did'nt stop the corrosion though.
