I had some Mintex 1155 pads fitted to my MY00 about 1000 miles ago. I left the original discs on (12000 miles use) and initially they seemed ok. The discs now seem very warped (heavy vibration back through the pedal on hard braking and brakes are not that effective).

I chose Mintex as I'd heard they were ok with standard discs.

Anyway my credit cards at the ready for some new discs - any suggestions on which type would be ok with the Mintex 1155s and where to get 'em from? Mail order would be ok as a mate of mine is a mechanic so could fit 'em for me.

Cheers,

Ian.

Thumbs up

Ian,
You wont go far wrong with a set of Group N discs from TSL (Paul/Graham), cost is approx £180 a pair but a lot thicker than most and "virgin" material used hence guaranteed not to warp, I had these on at our Lakes camping trip and can truly say that my parting with a further £1800 for me AP 6 pots was probably a move that could've been put off for a while longer.........but hey......you know me
Ring me if you need further info mate.
Chris
P.S; You should've been in my group today, I dont think I used my brakes, couldn't get above 30mph

Many thanks for the advice Chris, I've spoke to TSL who were very helpful and the discs are £231 delivered with the VAT.

The other option I've got is Black Diamond Combis at £164.50 all in.

I saw the Brembo Group N discs on the Scoobymania site but they don't stock these anymore. Does anyone know if they are available elsewhere?

Any advice much appreciated,

Cheers,

Ian.

Cheers Gav

Is this price for MY99/00 discs suitable for use with four pots?

Gav that's one heck of a price. TAS won't let me register to see their catalogue/prices - keep getting OLE errors.

Must be lucky with my Mintex 1155 on MY00 discs as although they squeal and drag, I just cannot get them to fade or crack the discs - the pads smoke but the discs just keep on going. How much longer can they go ? They smoke a lot more often after PPP DP induction. Stops them squealing too. Ian you must be one fun guy to have a ride with

Hi Ian
Except the warped discs are you satisfied with your pads? I think is one of the best choices for fast road driving.
I have to buy also new discs (MY2000, Mintex 1155), may be Godspeed or Tarox.
Some more suggestions please!
Thanks
JIM

A customer of mine bought a set of Brembo Group N grey cast discs from Scoobysport a little while ago and gave his car to me to fit them for him. While he was in I sold him AP racing 6 pots after he tried them on my car ;-)

Hence his set of Brembo Discs are still still sitting in my garage looking for a home. e-mail me if you are interested. They will be below cost as I'm sure he want's to get them off his hands.

Paul.

Question

Ian,

quote:
The discs now seem very warped (heavy vibration back through the pedal on hard braking and brakes are not that effective).

If there is no heavy vibration through the steering wheel it may well be the rear discs that have warped, this happened to me after I swapped my MY98 2pots to 4pots with upgraded pads, mine were swapped under warranty as the rears were completely std.

I tried several times to register on the TAS website without success and couldn't find what I wanted in any case. I ordered some Bremsport Group N discs by phone from TAS first thing this morning. The catalogue number in their brochure was wrong - their system reckoned it was a beetle front wing The correct part number was established as TAS6959 - I see Gavin has corrected his post accordingly. The discs weren't in stock - they're going to let me know delivery. The price quoted was just over £40 each + VAT + Delivery which amounts to £107.72 total

I must admit I'm starting to wonder whether the problem is warped front discs due to the 1155s. I spoke to Falkland Performance (highly recommended) as I purchased the pads from them. Falkland suggested I get things such as suspension, wheel bearings, etc. checked out since these may be the cause of the problem.

MY - have you got any spare AP 6 pots lying about in your garage that you no longer require

Gavin - thanks again for putting me onto TAS

John - it doesn't sound like I drive my car any harder than you do Maybe I've just been unlucky.

Jim - I was happy with the swap to 1155s and they seem good value compared with other pads

Mac's Power - wish you'd posted earlier, I'd have definitely bought 'em from you.

Andrew - thanks for the advice, I'll get this checked out

Cheers,

Ian.

Wink

Ian,

I had 1155s fitted to my car soon after I got it (with OE disks/2 pots) - within a fortnight, the disks were warped.

I replaced the disks with Black Diamond combis which didn't warp but there seemed to be no improvement in stopping power. About six weeks after they were fitted, they began to rust around the edges which I thought was a bit poor....

I don't know how good these Bremsport disks are but for the money, worth a try .

Hopefully, the stock will arrive soon.

Thanks

Gavin

Gav,

Reassuring to know that you have had similar problems with 1155s / standard discs. Maybe I do need to just swap the front discs and the brakes will be ok. Black Diamond Combis was one of the options I was considering.

Cheers,

Ian.

Interesting to hear your comments guys.

I've got a set of 1155s waiting to go on my MY99 UK 4dr. The brakes are squeeking a little at the moment, although there isn't a pattern (they do it when hot and cold).

I'm going to mention to the dealer as I'm getting the 37.5k service on Monday. If the pads are finished, I was going to get them to fit the 1155s but I'll have a think now.

Thanks,

ChrisB.

I had squeaky brakes for a while, came on after all the rain last year.

Stripped the pads out and regreased them - no squeak.

New discs arrived this morning Top service from TAS seeing as they weren't in stock when I ordered 'em Monday.

I'll hopefully get chance to put 'em on at the weekend.

Cheers,

Ian.
