Guys, serious question
There is a lovely set of 18's on my scoob which have minor scuffs (came with the car), BUT my other half drives it and will wreck the wheels as she always parks in tight spots at work. The 18" rims stick out from the rubber and attract kerbs but if I change to 17's with fatter tyres will the rims be better protected ??
I used to have 16" speedlines on the last scoob and the tyres had rim protectors which really protected the rims....
please dont suggest driver training for her, or hiding the keys !!
cheers
Dan
ps I'm considering swapping the 18's for similair 17's before she destroys them...

I think you'll have to fit real wide tires on real narrow wheels to make them "women-safe". Maybe 225 tires on a 6.5" rim. Plus the tires need good protectors too.
It will make them a lot more protective but it will also make the performance suffer.

I have 17" racelines on and they stick out from the rubber. 215/40 rubber.
sigmunds right you'll have to put larger tyres on, probably a higher profile like 60.
I have driven the scoob for 2 years kerb free, me missus drives it once and kerbs one of them. That's life I'm afraid.

I think the problem may not be the size of the tire. It's more likely to be the tire itself.
If you look at a Bridgestone SO2PP it has a protection-lip (is that the word?) that is wider than the rim itself.
So this lip protects the rim.

The rims have Toyo T1-S tyres on already so I expect that they are just too narrow.
Anyway to save further damage I'm replacing them with 17's and higher profile tyres (with rim protectors) which will save them hopefully.
cheers for the help
