Thumbs up

Realise this is hardly a breaking news topic, but i also fitted a brake support bracket about three weeks ago.
Now that i've been able to do a few miles on it, i'd thoroughly recommend them to anyone wanting a better braking performance.

I've had Brembos/APs for about six months now, and, whatever they say, they don't work really well till they're warmed up,
so around town you have to press harder than you'd think.

However, with the support bracket, the brakes are definitely firmer, have more feel and instil a greater sense of confidence.

Definitely worth £60 IMO.

Interesting. What I am wondering is will a brake support bracket and braided lines actually improve braking or just the feel of it? If they result in more energy transmission to the pistons then I suppose they must help?

John,

Bit of both i think. The car definitely stops better, because more energy is going into the calipers, and when you're only slowing down,
the pedal response is quicker. For £60, it's worth the benefit - you'll definitely notice it.

cheers,
Terry

Question

How easy is it to fit ? Did you do it yourself ? Where did you get it and does it come with instructions ?

Tony,

I got mine from Scoobymania, who supply the original Australian rally item, or Power Engineering do one (their own version i think).
Scoobymania's item is very well made - the only downside is that the instructions are a photocopied sheet, which means that the
reproduction of the pictures is grim - i had to look at other peoples' pictures on Scoobynet from previous threads to get a good idea how it works.
But once you have this, it's dead easy, really. About ten minutes, fifteen tops.
I can talk you through it if you like. Don't be put off - every Scoob should have one IMO.

Sounds good to me, being completely mechanically inept. Thanks for the info.

What model Scooby did you fit in on Telboy?

I'm wondering if it would be any good on a MY99 UK.

TIA,

ChrisB.

Chris,

Onto a 97 WRX. But they're universal (though i don't know if they fit the new model). Certainly no problem on a 99.
The fitting instructions do mention that some Imprezas have a short barrel servo, but all you need to get around this is a longer adjusting bolt. In practice, however, i've never seen such an item, so i don't think it's an issue at all.
I chose Scoobymania's, which is fine, but i'd say that if Power Engineering's instructions are clearer (how difficult IS it to do a decent photocopy?!), then that might be the one to go for. They do the same job.

I fitted mine on an sti5 - with AP 4 pots and noticed absolutely no difference whatsoever....

I also have braided hose - a must I thought with the 4 pots, as the dot 5.1 fluid has a much higher boiling point and the standard hoses are usually insufficient

I dont have any probs using my brakes from cold - I notice very little difference - they dont need to be warmed up for me - I'm running AP pads

Horses for course though I guess

I'd take off the BSB but its too much hassle
