front 308mm rears standard?????

Question

Just after a bit of advice, not sure if I'm being stoopid !

My front two discs are warped big time, so I'm after some new ones, but I think the rears are OK, i.e. not warped, but could probably do with being replaced in the not too distant future.

Is it ok to fit 308mm discs to the front and leave the rears standard?? At the moment everything else is standard, i.e. 2-pots front and single rear.

I have 16 inch STi 5-spoke style alloys...will they even fit I wonder?

Would appreciate any help,

By the sounds of it your fitting the Scoobysport/Brembo/AP kit. I'mm 99% sure that they will fit under your wheels, And I'm also sure that it's ok to leave the rears alone, I did when I had brembo's and had no probs.
Enjoy the brakes, you'll scare yourself if you ever use them to their limit!

Cheers Ron, not quite fitting the brembo kit (wish I was though!), was thinking of fitting 308mm discs instead of direct replacement size, to standard calipers...

Thing is for standards from godspeed inc pads is £220, but £425 for 308mm and pads...think I might just stick with standards to be honest. Lots extra!

Not sure!

Hi Alex,

I'm running the AP Racing 6-pot brakes (330mm disks) at the front, and the rears are standard!!

No problems, but I might upgrade the rear disks and pads soon!

I didn't think Godspeed did a 308mm disk kit for the std calipers as there is not a big enough size difference in the disk to make a bracket to offset the caliper.

For 16" STI wheels, I think Ian and I discussed this and it's 297mm standard 4-pots or 304mm with other callipers which have different mountings.

I never got the impression 308mm would fit.

I have got the standard 4 pot calipers with some of Mr Godney's finest discs and bells, with Mintex 1144 pads, I have found them to be very good, I haven't yet tried them on a track but I will soon!

Hi guys,

Yeh according to Ian (Ian's words via email)Godspeed can offer a 308mm disc and bell kit which will fit my standard 2-pot calipers, total with pads was £425.

Mine's a '93 WRX so has only 2-pots front and single rear you see...maybe this is source of confusion? maybe not

Anyway, I'm thinking of going with standard size discs for now, then get 4-pots for front, then 308mm discs in that order...then might think about the rears

Hang on.....Ron, if you didn't get 308mm discs then what did you get, for £425?

I got quoted this like

2 308mm discs and bell kit
set of pads
£425....not sure if 'kit' means there's extra gubbins to like a bracket for the calipers or something?

Ian seeme like a decent sort of chap, if he say's he can do what you say, then I'm sure he can, If he says 'kit' then there must be brackets aswell.
My discs are 294mm I think, anyway they are standard fourpot size!

I think what happens when keeping the rear brakes standard and upgrading the fronts is that even more of the braking is done by the front brakes. You could put in an adjustable bias valve to correct this. That would transfere more of the braking to the rear wheels and thus give you even more stopping power.

Hi all , Just to clarify , I cannot fit 308mm discs with the Subaru four pots as there is not enough room for a bracket so we supply the discs and bells 294mm , If you have the 2 pot calipers with 277mm discs , we can supply a kit that includes discs and bells 308mm , mounting brackets and pads , as we are going from 277mm to 308mm we have enough room for a bracket , Hope this helps , Cheers , Ian

Sigmund , You cannot increase the braking power by putting a bias valve in , all a valve can do is shut power down , If you have too much power to the back you can fine tune it by shutting the power to the back until the balance is perfect for your style of driving , Ian

Yep, decided on 2 grooved fronts, standard size whatever that may be, and some pads, just for now. Not sure whether my '93 has 277 or 294 mm discs on it though, and if it's got 277 wonder if I can fit 294s without too many problems? Now there's a thought

I know that the bias valve limits flow and thus braking power but what you in effect are doing is that your moving an bigger percentage of the braking power to the rear (or front) brakes. To either restore normal brake balance or to get more braking to the rear...

Let's not get picky here.
