Unhappy

this happened straight away after i changed my back pads...

the rear o/s brake always seems to be on and gets so hot when i go out 4 a drive ?!?!?

it gets soooooo hot that sometimes my brakes fail... i.e. foot going right down to the floor, i have to pump it to get some braking going

i heard that when you push the piston back to fit the new ones that it goes back and turns slightly as they retract, not sure about the other side but this side was siezed slightly and had to be done with a bit of force ?!?!?

and im sure it didnt turn whilst going back in

can any1 help me???
im guna spend the day 2mo stripping it down and having a very close look, ill take the piston out if i have to

thxs in adv

Dave..

I had a similar problem with my NSR and it proved to be the Piston not retracting properly. The Piston boot had a slight hole in it causing a build up of crap.

I got a new Piston seal & Piston boot kit from a dealers, took the caliper off the car.

Undo the attachment from the rear of the caliper that connect to the brake hose, empty out any excess fluid inside. I used a flat ended object to coax out the piston by inserting in the thread hole and gently pushing. Remove the piston boot and you should be able to remove the Piston, clean it up with some new brake fluid and I used very fine emery paper to remove any built up deposits. Replace the Piston seal making sure you get it in straight and soak it with fluid, reinsert the piston and the the Boot & Clip that holds it in place. Push the boot back with a piece of flat wood across the top and then return to the vehicle.

It took me about 40 mins all in to do mine, although it's not something to rush but do get it sorted. I feel that my wheel bearing has dried out the grease a bit because of the excessive heat caused by the locked Caliper.

Cheers

Dave..

The repair kit cost me £18, this is the kit that contains 4 of each item as it's for the front 2 pot calipers.

(4xPiston Seal)
(4xPiston Boot)
(4xPiston Boot Clip)

Out of 5 I'd rate it about 3.5 on difficulty.

My brakes never failed but the rear hub & disc got very very hot...

Cheers

What car do you have ?? I've got a 95 WRX and I sent my Brother to the dealers to get the piston kit and they asked the usual crap about model, chassis number so they could get the right part. He just told them it's a 1995 UK Turbo and he needs a pistion seal kit, they wouldn't help if he'd said it was an Import
