Yokohama A520`s any comments
Yes, I have a set of these on my MY98, after my OE Bridgestone RE010s expired. I like them a lot, much better than standard - great grip in the dry, pretty good in the wet, and have definitely improved turn-in response. I paid £400 for 4 all-in and would certainly consider them again.
Although I don't have any personal experience with A520's - one of my friends has them on his WRX and he says that they don't last very long.
He also says that they are very "sticky" and grip the road very well during cornering.
How long do they last for you Tony ?
Thanks
Gavin

Dave,
I've had a set of A520 215/40/17 on my car for about 9 months now.
The improved turn in is probabaly down to going from 55 series tyres to 40 series than the make/model of tyre.
The dry weather grip is excellent but then again most of that is down to having a Scoobs. The wet weather grip could be better I feel, but then again they are no worse than the Bridgestones that were fitted to the car from new (RE010).
When the edges have finally worn out and I can't rotate them any more i'll definately get something else, maybe some AVS's or Goodyear F1's etc just to try them and compare.
Over the last twelve months i've read a lot of good and bad mentioned about all the above tyres, none of them are perfect !
It's all very subjective.
You pays yer money ........

Ring Toyo at Nothants 01933 411144 and they will send you a list of all dealers. I have seen prices as low as £300 for 4 Toyo TS1 for 16" rims (in Manchester area). The Best For Bridgestone S02's were £400 from Micheldever (Hants)
Big Bear,
I have Yoko A520s on my MY98 and I think the grip in the dry is very good, but they're no good in the wet. They are quite a soft compound tyre so wear quicker than most.
I don't have experience of other tyre makes on the Scoob (I bought mine used, with Yokos already fitted) but from what I've read, the Bridgestone S-02s or Goddyear Eagle F1s are about the best overall.
Hope this helps
Cheers

Mark B et al,
Only just read your question!
I got the T1S price in the last couple of weeks from "Motorsport Wheels" in Bristol. They are a national operation, so check the web/directory enquiries for one local to you.
The price I was quoted was £340 all inclusive (fitting and vat) on a 2 to 3 day delivery.

Have to agree about the A539's, they are very good (although I've only had Falkens on before) They have a better wear rate than the 520's so should last a bit longer. I used them in the rain at Croft the other month and the only time I lost the back end was in the dry
but I was probably getting a bit cocky by that point and pushed a little too hard in a hair pin

A520 are a good tyre, but on Subaru's not as good as the previous A510.
Best value for money tyre for Suabru's is the Kumho 712's, they use a silicon based rubber which is normally only found in race tyres or the very top of the range.
I have found these tyres amazing in the wet, haven't managed to get them to aquaplane yet. Tyre wear is very good so far. I have recomended these tyres to a number of people and they are all happy with them.

I dont know about the A539's. I am not convinced they are a top performance tyre. In a local test on a front wheel drive Toyota they did terribly.
They didnt do too well in the wet even though they are silicon based. Didnt do wonderfully in the dry either, I think the compound is harder for longer life than on the 520.

For your information, I was told that the A520 has now been superseded by the A539.
Micheledever Tyres can supply 205/45R17 A539 for £105.10 (including fitting and VAT).
I only know as my boss needs some for her Prelude.

Puzzled by the date of the original post?....
Anyway, had some on my last car. Good in dry, sharp response, good turn-in....but completely unpredictable in the wet. I wouldn't have them again if they were free! (sorry but I was that nervy about them in the wet)I put them on after Micheldever suggested them, so I was disappointed in extreme. Only thing I can say in defence is that the Honda is a much lighter car than my scoob, and the Yoko's were a slightly harder compound than others I had on the car before. Might suit a heavier car...but there's plenty of other recommendations from other threads, S02's and 3's, P-zeros....I'd stick with those.

Tyres are very interesting. Some tyres work better on different cars due to the suspension geometry, eg some tyres will be increadible on one car and crap on others.
The A539 tyres are much better than the A520's on Subaru cars.
I mentioned "normally found in top of the range", not only found in top of the range.
The A539 is close enough to the top of the Yokohama range.
More and more tyre manufacturers will start using silicon base in their tyres

Just read this thread and I've got to admit I disagree with much of what has been said about A520.
I changed my fronts to A520 from original Bridgestone Re010 (16.205.50) , and found grip, especially in the wet a lot worse than the original. I also found steering response and feel worse. However I found wear better than the originals. I changed origianls at 14K, I'm now on 31K and have a good 3-4K left before they will need replacing (at 2mm tread).
To make matters worst, I changed my backs for Michelin Pilot Sports, these seem miles better than originals (especially in wet), and hence on a different planet to the A520's. However this makes the undesteer even worse, so I'm lining up some Pilots for the front.
