i have a 98 terzo and am thinking of a brake upgrade i have been told that the brakes from a 99 spec car are a good way to go.
any ideas?? ta paul

 

Assuming you've currently got 2 pot calipers, then a cheap upgrade is to 99/00 4 pots which will give you increased stopping power.

Alternatively, Hispecbigbrakes do a larger disc kit for 2 pots which may be of interest? But you've still only got 2 pistons acting on the pads... (400-500 quid upgrade)

If you buy second hand 4pots (300 quid?), you may find that you need new pads/discs too. While you're buying these, you may want to upgrade the size - godspeed brakes do a larger disc/pad kit for 4 pots. (500 quid for pads and discs)

Above that, there's brembo 4 pots from Scoobysport, or AP Racing 6 pots from Scoobysport/Scoobymania (around 1500 - 1600 quid if you haggle?). Both of these are lighter calipers than the Subaru 4 pot iron caliper so assist handling by reducing unsprung weight. They also dissipate heat better than the iron jobs - you will not make these fade.

I'm running 4pots on my MY00 and am going to go for the Godspeed upgrade sometime as I can't justify ap 6 pots - I don't do track days.

I replaced the 2pots on MY98 with the MY99 spec 4pots six months ago. The new set-up is a huge improvement all round. I found that the 2pots were really inadequate for the power of the car. If you are unsure then try breaking hard in a car with 4pot calipers fitted and then your own car. You will be amazed by the difference.

Consider some uprated pads also. I've used the Mintex 1155 and Ferrodo DS-2000 pads so far. Both are excellent, however I do get some break squeal now.

I know you can also try changing the disks and pads without changing the calipers, but I've no experience of this.

the ones i know all have,just have to decat the exhaust to drownd it out!
