I've got EBC grooved disks and Greenstuff pads, so far I am very happy with them (though I should have got reds), I get no noise from them and they are very clean.

Used to have Mintex 1155's they were very very messy with lots of sparks onto the wheels, and they tended to squeal at low speeds.

Did you fit the pads yourself or did a garage do it ??, are the pads exactly the right size for the callipers ??, also the pad metalwork is thickly painted meaning that they sometimes do not sit properly on the carriers.

The EBC greens need a few hundred miles (someone mentioned about 600) to bed in properly, if you abuse them too soon they get knackered.

Stuart

edited cos I didn't read your post properly first time !!

Iain , The EBC pads for the Brembo calipers are a diffent material than the standard pad material , I will contact EBC to find out why , I think they have used someone else's pad and sprayed them green and put there logo on , Th EBC greenstuff are a light colour and smells of fish !!! The greestuff brembo pad had no smell and is dark in colour , Ian ,

IMHO the std disks are made from low grade tin foil - i went through two sets on std pads!, first set warped and the second just worn out both in 34K. I have not had my car out on the track and i do a 60/40 split of motorway/twon driving.

I have the EBC turrbo groves and greens and after the iniitial bedding in the are fab!

Question

Fitted EBC pads to my Brembo calipers a couple of weeks ago and have done about 200 miles on grooved and drilled disks. They make all sorts of strange noises, varying between high and low frequency rumbles, sometimes being felt thro' the pedal. Also, there is a reasonable amount of metal particles within the dust on the wheels?! I thought Greens were supposed to be 'gentle' on the disks? Do DS2000 or Mintex 1155 do this?
Cheers

fitted EBC greens too, and they have warped the standard discs

I have decided to go with EBC turbo groove discs and redstuff pads, as I know that this set up works well.

I've heard some stories about EBC Greens but Ian's theory certainly beats the lot!

Iain, just fit Ferodo DS2000. They're the best fast road pad, full stop. (No pun intended )

Question

Thanks all.
I fitted the pads myself and they needed a bit of persuation - come to think of it, they were too big by about the thickness of the green paint!!!!
Ian, the disks are becoming very scared whereas the Brembo pads kept a smooth finish. Is this normal and OK?
Cheers
P.S. Ian, I sent you an e-mail a while ago asking about similar disks to replace my rear ones.

EBC Greens on grooved discs can make a kind of purring or aeroplaning noise when bedding in, EBC brakes also explains this in the (small) user guide that comes with the brake pads. Your discs should look like they are being polished with the EBC Greens.

It depends on what you use them for. All Pads are a compromise between

-Price
-Performance when cold
-Performance at operating temperature
-Performace when passed optimum temperature (resistance to fade)
-Operating temperature
-Wear rate at operating temp and below
-Wear rate at > operating temperature
-'Niceness' to disk

And probably more that I've forgoten about.

You cannot balance all of these factors, increasing the operating temparature of a pad would tend to shift the lower temperature at which they would work up etc etc

The answer is of course, buy a pad to suite your purpose. If you drive 'fast' on roads, buy EBC Greens, DS2000's, 1144's and the like. If you do track days and are prepared to compromise on some of the above points (for the road) in order to get higher operating temparatures etc go for EBC Red, DS3000 or Pagid RS421 Blue (etc) but be prepared to wreck a set of disks or two.

If you want more - buy bigger callipers and disks.

I personally found Pagid Blue absolutely the best on track (out of the ones I've tried), but the first stop in the morning needed some care - they are a little noisy and much dirtier than standard (and cost 2 x as much of course!) horses for courses.

They are not track pads and accordingly EBC advise that they are not used on track, at least not in Scoobs.

Small point, but Pagid 'Blues' are RS4-2. Pagid RS421 is a different compound. These are expensive but are the best road/track pad I've used.

In my view, Ferodo DS2000 are also up to track use but they will wear quickly so keep a close eye on them (ie take a get-me-home spare set) and are also not cheap!

The reason i'm not impressed with Reds is there lack of bite, in comparison to the Greens...

I'd like to think that braking hard from 140 mph on numerous occasions on some serious roads would warm the pad sufficiently...? but obviouly not.. Or maybe I have been unfortunate and received a dodgy set.

With most pads I have used, it's been possible to activate the ABS in the dry, with MY Red's you've got no chance...! . Not that I brake that late all the time, hardly ever infact.. but I see this as problem as thay just don't slow the car quick enough for my liking.....

If i could afford it then AP's would be the obvious answer, but............

Doh ! yes I meant Pagid RS4-2 commonly called Blues (as that's the colour they are painted)

Looking at the EBC Web site Greens have an average (whatever that is) friction rating of 0.46u and reds of 0.33u

What is more useful is a graph of friction / temperature which I've got somewhere for the Pagids - or wait for Hoppy's article on Scoobynews (I think !) which I'm sure will explain it all.

Anyway, I'm surprised the Reds would be that bad (no experience myself, but others have raved over them) I could lock up the fronts from about 50-60 in the dry on Pagid's and std 4 Pots. I understand the AP boys can activate the ABS at will.

This is what the EBC Greens have done to my new disks within 300 miles of careful use. The previous Brembo pads left a smooth surface. Anyone else found this with Greens? There is also a slight ridge appearing on the inside and outside edges!

Iain
I've also noticed that wear characteristic with EBC green compared to the standard pad on my MY99 caliper/disk.
The picture of your scored disk looks a lot like my front after 1000 miles of EBC green.
They do work well though

Hi Guys,

I had a post on these pads a short while ago. Fitted EBC greens as was advised (Reds for track days) and they have warped my discs after about 500 miles sedate road driving!!!

Dilemma now is: buy EBC discs (£160 pair) or try something else???

Just ordered some EBC disks - the opinion from the guys at the shop (SCA race and rally) was that "EBC can't complain if you warp their disks with their pads" and will replace them (within a reasonable time).

I just hope they work better than the standard disks....
