Question

Whats your opinions to those who have tried both, I already have some Mintex 1155 for the track, whould you fit red or green for the road. It has to be EBC.

Thanks for your help.

Can't comment on EBC red/green performance, as I haven't used them. However, I do know that EBC have revised their recommendations for the Impreza (and several other cars) and now say that you should fit EBC reds for fast road use. I think this is largely due to the fact that the Impreza is quite a heavy car.

Cheers

Hi

I've just had Red's fitted and had Green's before...

Greens were good and will see how good the reds are in Wales on Sunday? I'll keep you informed...

I've run both types of pad for road and track use and would recomend the Greens for road use as the reds have little inital bite and need to be warmed up before they work well. This was in a Puma which is only 150kg or so lighter than a Scoob, but the brakes heated up a lot quicker due to the small discs. Both types are pants on the track though.

Hi Jase,
I`ve tried quite a number of types/makes and the best so far is EBC Red Stuff on the front and EBC Green Stuff for the rears. I dont know what year your car is but Green Stuff rears are only available up to MY98 at the moment as they still havent recieved Type Approval for later models.
Cheers

Why does it have to be EBC? There are plenty of other pads with a proven record of consistently high performance. Ferodo DS2000 would be my choice.

Cool

I've just fitted Reds on the front, pedal feels a bit dead for the first few pushes. Can still get the abs to work by just using a bit more muscle though. I also have a Fiesta Hills/sprint car (V light) with greens, can still manage to lock up the fronts with slicks fitted, and never have fade, Impreza is obviously well heavier...if your not in any hurry I'll give you my impressions of the reds for road and track (track day Monday 14th)

Jase,
Got greenstuff on my fronts. nearly bedded them in, but seem pretty good. However, I should state that I also had new wilwood drilled and vented disks, braided hoses, and dot 5.1 fluid fitted when pads were put on.

Why did I go for greenstuff? well, i've heard loads about them being good from many people, so I though I'd give them a go.
Plus there is the fact that the front pads and discs were completley shot on the blackbeast and to replace them with OEM parts, excluding the braided hoses, would have cost about the same, if not a little more, than the 'uprated' pads and discs i've now got. Plus the drilled discs and green pads look cool

If you want some more advice - speak to Hi Spec Engineering - they are a brake specialist based in Dartford. They do a huge amount of work with EBC / AP / Wilwood etc and make their own very high spec brake components. Details at

Hi

The Reds are certainly different... still can't work out if they're better than Greens or not...

There's no chance of fade, but then they don't bite that well either.. and that was after a serious canning in Wales on Sunday...

My ABS wouldn't come on, could it be a faulty set of pads...?

John - do you have the STI 4 pots? how long do they take to get a decent temp...?

Scoop,

This is what I was told for 96 models until I spoke to someone at EBC. According to their catalogue, 98 onwards Greenstuff pads are available for the rear.

Check with EBC on 01604 583344

I would still choose Greens over Reds for road use, unless they've changed the compound.
I only managed to get fade once with Greens and that was after a very, very spirited drive. The initial bite is also far superior to Red IMHO.
I know some companies are recommending Red for Imprezas cos they're heavier cars, but Greens still get my vote.
Anyway, they're so cheap it's worth at least trying them isn't it?

The greenstuff are fantastic, and much better suited, I have driven a car with red stuff on and getting it to stop from cold was no fun, heat really need. I have the greenstuff on my (+EBC turbogroove discs) and the brakes are fantastic for heavy road use.

Would have reds, take too much warming and you really don't need that on a motorway slip road (trust me)

Iain.
No, haven't tried them on the AP's.
I've found that even using the race pads on the road has had no adverse effect on braking performance with them, even from cold.
