Where does the term 'Pots' come from?

Early cars have '2 pots' therefore they have calipers with 2 cylinders in them, later cars have 4, and they have 4 cylinders in the caliper.

I thought that 'pots' referred to to the number of cylinders / pistons, but I'm baffled as how to they got called pots!

The pistons actually look like little pots when you take them out, maybe thats where it comes from?

The prase " POTS " refers to the number of joints you have to smoke before you can get the things back together after stripping them !!

No, it's because you need pots of money in order to buy them!
