Default Over sensitive ABS ?

It seems as though the ABS on my 03 WRX cuts in far too often at low speed. Quite often when I am braking comming up to a set of lights or roundabout etc the ABS cuts in after going over a small bump in the road.

Never experienced this on any other car. Is this normal or a bit over sensitive?

I had this on my MY04 with Prodrive brakes from new - but it only lasted for 2.5k miles.
I think it was down to the tyres scrubbed off a bit more depth or the ABS has a learning ability?
It will only happen now when I try VERY hard with the brakes - but then that's what the ABS is meant to do.
How old are your tyres?

Thanks for the link Duncan it was interesting and Butty, the tyres have done about 12,000 miles, so should be well worn in by now.

Has anyone else experienced this problem?

I've got a similar problem on a WRX 02. I tend to find that I am not going fast and I have left a good gap and have time to lift off and apply again, which seems to cure it.

However its a bit disconcerting when you suddenly find the braking system disagreeing with you about the way you are braking.

I have had this same problem on a rover and a vauxhall and in both cases the ABS counter cog was cracked. The gap was causing the ABS to think that the car had locked up. Its worth a check anyway, if you take the front wheels off and have a good look and you should see a cog, if its cracked then thats your problem.

I've got an MY02 WRX and the ABS often cuts in...then it decides it's not needed and turns itself off again....

I'm tempted to remove the ABS fuse but I would like it there for a *real* emergency.
